What'd he die of?

It's probably better for him and his family, the Alzheimers had really taken it's toll.

Just heard earlier today.

I probably would have voted for him if I wasn't like 2 years old when he was in office.

Well veitnam must be happy.. But serously, this disease has taken its tolls on famous and infamous people as is.. If you have seen Alzheimers on hand.. You would feel sorry and apart of your heart would die just the same.. I mean, he was a good president though.. :'(

He was president of the United states for 8 years (I think?), a prominant actor in the 40s and 50s (I think), and president of the screen actors guild for a while (I know this one)

I hadn't watched any news today nor listened to any news radio. I found out here. I knew the day would come fairly soon and I dreaded hearing the news. I can only hope that his family at least feels some peace that their loved one will no longer have to suffer through that horrid disease.

Love him or hate him, Ronald Reagan will go down in history as a good, strong president. America is a much better place today due to his strong leadership.

No probably about it. It is better. I know from first hand expirence. My grandmother had Alzheimers. It was incredibly painful to walk into her room at the nursing home and watch her look at my entire family and her husband, my grandfather, with complete confusion on her face.

You're sad they're gone, but you are very happy their pain is gone.

Well, at least the number of ICBMs has lowered; and due much to his efforts.

Good job Ronny, you worked hard.

He had a lot to say... he had a lot of nothing to say. We'll miss him.

It was about time for the devil to take him back. No, really, he is the spawn of the devil. I have proof:

-How many leaders survive assassination attempts? Only those who make deals with the devil first.
-Consider the name: Ronald Wilson Reagan... each name is 6 letters each. 666.

Reagan is the devil's spawn, or the devil himself, and it's a blessing for him to leave this world!

It was a blessing for him to die for his own sake, too. He was 93, he had, well I can't spell it, but it's not good. His life wasn't worth living any more.

Too many people are way to sensitive about death. If there's an afterlife, then most people are much better off there. If there's not, then their time is over. There's no point mourning about it.

Reagan was one of our worst presidents, actually, but I don't see how that affects the proper reaction to his death. It's a sad thing when anyone dies.

Heh, it always amuses me that it doesn't matter what the person did while alive, as soon as they die they are mourned.

What did he do? Have a different policy vision than some people? Even if I conceded that he was a terrible president (which I don't) that doesn't make him a terrible person.

Hitler wasn't mourned when he died. Reagan is being mourned for a reason. For once I agree with Ictus. (Though debating him is futile anyway because he kicks my *** every time I try.)
2004-06-06, 12:46 PM #32
I have refrained from calling Reagan one of our best Presidents because that would be baiting a debate.

To call him one of the worst would not only be doing the same but would also be ignorant.

...even though I didn't always agree with Reagan, I can't see anything he ever did that would make mourning him inappropriate...?

Thanks, Jedi Legend.

Wookie: Obi started it. In any case, maybe a debate would be appropriate. We should be honest about Reagan's presidency instead of whitewashing it.
2004-06-06, 3:07 PM #35
No whitewashing is necessary. We all in live in the aftermath of his presidency. Had he been one of the worst presidents in our history we wouldn't have had an era of such huge economic growth and optimism. To call him one of the worst is to simply acknowledge your own biases. I'm sure you can find many worse presidents if you try hard. Just go ahead and name all the republican ones since that's probably what you'd do anyway.

All I have to say is, "About damn time."

Now, before I get flammed, if you've ever known anyone with Alzheimers or have read up on it a good bit, then you'll know that R. Reagan, in many ways, has already been dead for quite some time now. That is to say, if you consider (as I do) ones personality to be who they actually are, has been, and ever will be and is what truly makes you alive.

Um..yeah, I've said enough now, I think.

You don't have to tell me that. I've already stated that stating opinions about about whether he was one of the best or worst presidents in our history is flame baiting. The worst I've done here is to not ignore the distasteful posts of a couple people. I apologize and will ignore any future flaming at the expense of former president Reagan.

Reagan used Born in the USA as his campaign theme. The song was written as a protest to some of his earlier actions. What makes it so much funnier is that he didn't ask to use it. And when the Boss found out he was using a song he wrote against Reagan, without asking his permission, he told him to stop playing it or he would sue him. What have we learned from this?

1. Reagan did not have very good musical comprehension.
2. Springsteen rocks.
