Illinois SUCKS!

So after just shelling out $80 for some blue neon under-car lighting, I find out it's apparently illegal in Illinois. Why? Who the hell knows. It's just the government stroking it's massive ego. Law states:
Quote:
(625 ILCS 5/12‑212) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12‑212)
Sec. 12‑212. Special restrictions on lamps. (a) No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device on the vehicle or equipment displaying a red light visible from directly in front of the vehicle or equipment except as otherwise provided in this Act.
(b) Subject to the restrictions of this Act, flashing lights are prohibited on motor vehicles except as a means for indicating a right or left turn as provided in Section 12‑208 or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring unusual care as expressly provided in Sections 11‑804 or 12‑215.
(c) Unless otherwise expressly authorized by this Code, all other lighting or combination of lighting on any vehicle shall be prohibited.
(Source: P.A. 86‑664.)
And maybe it's just me, but doesn't part c seem to make a & b completely pointless?

I'm sure I missed the part where looking bad was illegal.

Illinois has allot of really restrictive laws... plus they were one of the first states to implement the DMCA i think...

Underbody lights are illegal in a number of areas.

Here in Missouri Blue and red are illegal. But the laws only state one of the colors (blue I believe, it's been a while), and on any other color, the tube has to be hidden.

A lot of the laws concerning these have to do with the colors of emergency vehicles, and the ability to use these lights to impersonate a cop, or other emeregency vehicle/personell.

At least this has been my understanding. Though it is kinda retarded, since cops and such have lights on the top of their vehicle, or their windshield.

I think it's a law in most places.

but you gus want dumb...I saw a minivan with hubcap spinners. and it was like this 40 year only guy driving with his family. hubcap spinners + minivan + carseat = quality entertainment.

quite possibly one of the funniest moments of my driving career.

Dude, they are small car sprays, nothing close to the spray of a water gun, not to mention that people wont up close and personal, so as Elana said, it'll have time to cool down. Still, a small spray of 120 degrees water is at most gonna burn on contact for a second or until you quickly wipe it off (don't worry, your reflexes will cover that for you if it burns too much for you) , and its not gonna cause any damage. Nothing like dipping your hand in a pot with 120 degree water in it.

Ok, maybe I should have rephrased the "burn" part. I don't mean blistering types of burn, but the burning sensation of getting squirted with 120 degree water. And I'm affraid I've already seen a few dozen people get squirted in drive-bys in my hick-*** college town, so I don't think "people not being up close" is an issue.

Its not illigal here. I have seen tons of cars with them, and that really seems like a pointless law to me. And not only ricers put neon on their cars, i have seen mustangs with them and i once saw an escalade that was lit up like a christmas tree.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I think they're illegal here in New Mexico too. But it's rare you get stopped for them...I mean, there's actually a cop around here somewhere that has those blue neon things under his camaro cop car. It's depressing really...

The reason they're illegal is typically "impersonating an emergency vehicle." Per that law, he is not in violation.

Yeah right. My tail lights are brighter than undercar lighting. If that ruins your night vision, you shouldn't be driving.

THE reason that blue lights are illegal and almost all states is because of the high frequency of them being used on police cars because there are many cop cars that only have blue flashing lights instead of blue and red flashing lights (usually pending exactly what kind of cop it is and just how hick of a town you live in). When you're driving down the road at night and a big suv pulls up behind you with those two little blue lights on the hood, it can easily be mistaken for lights on a cop car at first. Although not really putting anyone in danger, it's just really annoying and looks like **** to boot. I mean by common since, blue light = cop car. So blue light on non cop car = confusion and me being angry at you so cutting you off and hopefully causing you to go into a ditch with a big firey exlposion.
I'm not wearing any pants...
2006-01-17, 11:08 PM #38
What I don't understand is why you would spend so much money on something that you can get pulled over for in some areas depending on how capricious the cops are, and does absolutely nothing to increase the performance of your car. (in fact, it just eats battery power and it might violate some warranties you have left on your car b/c IIRC you have to splice those lights directly into the electrical system)
