This movie is going to stir up way too much controversy for it's own good.

Too bad it's a cover up anyway.

Nah, not too soon. They already had a special about it on the Discover Channel a few months ago.

You know, I still never quite understood how exactly the hijackers took over the planes with just box cutters. I imagine they must have had something else too. Even if there were three or four hijackers, there were still 70 or more other passengers that had plenty of carry on luggage they could have used to shield themselves as they rushed the hijackers. A box cutter couldn't go through an average backpack filled with carry on stuff, plus the aisles are narrow and its hard to manuever around lots of people weilding luggage, plus if everyone on the plane rushed them, they would've been subdued.

Ric_Olie, that's because people are scared of confrontations.. and besides, they probably didn't know they were going to be crashing into buildings.. the terrorists could have mis-lead everyone by telling them they would be able to land safely if no one tried anything heroic.

Let's see. Tear someone to pieces with box cutters and terrify all the passengers. Now, how is it hard to believe they managed to hijack the planes again?

Plus, you're forgetting the diffusion of responsibility factor. Any group of people larger than, I believe, five people are almost guaranteed to do nothing; everyone assumes someone else will do something.

It's the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania on 9/11, after the passengers fought back agianst the hijackers.

so this film will be... a romantic comedy then?

i like the whole idea for this film... but in my 'mind' 93 was shot down since the wreckage was scattered and the crash zone itself didn't have anything there besides a hole and some fire along with miniscule debris. The whole lets roll story is nice but Cell Phones do not work on air planes at 30000 feet.

I really like Paul Greengrass, and from the one second clip of footage in the trailer I like the documentary-look approach he's taking. Going to make it hard to watch in the theatre though, the Bourne Supremacy was dizzying.

Later this year, the Oliver Stone movie is coming out about 9/11 with Nicholas Cage. He says he's not going to recreate any footage of the planes crashing into the buildings, or the buildings falling down, but all he's going to show is the newscasts that we saw on TV. The movie is about Nicholas Cage, as a fireman, going inside to save some people.

And Yoshi, I totally agree with you. Ruthven, that was really uncalled for.

Yes they do, I have used them before. However, signal quality is poor and your call will cut out every minute or so.

EDIT:Also, the terorists were not flying at cruising altitude.

For the record, cell phones do work at 30000 feet. I've talked to people on them.

You forget that 95% of planes have phones on them. Ya know, the ones attached to the seats?

I still say there would have been somebody on the other 3 flights that could have realized what was happening and rallied the passengers.

I also would like to add to all the criticism of this post... People were calling others in their family on that flight when it actually happened.

granted but what about the lack of a plane at the crash site?

I take it you've never seen a plane crash before. I saw one once at an airshow; it was a WWII fighter, probably going no more than 150-200 knots, it hit the ground and basically disintegrated. The only recognizable part left was the propeller.

Now imagine you have something travelling 3-4 times faster, slamming into the ground.

That was my first thought while watching the trailer. Other than that, eh...I probably won't see it. It kind of bothers me that they're making a movie about it... I don't have any reason for it to bother me though, so eh

argh. sorry... but i am just stating facts about the crash like debris was found 8 miles from the crash site. Where can we take this discussion, its such a good topic (to me at least)
2006-01-21, 12:47 PM #33
The passengers never even made it into the cabin. It's far more likely that it was shot down or a bomb went off (I believe in one of the calls, a passenger said that there was a bomb.)
You forget that 95% of planes have phones on them. Ya know, the ones attached to the seats?
I've never been on a plane with phones attached to seats, and I've never heard of them, so I doubt that it's 95% of planes that have these. Plus that would be a shedload of phones.
nope.

The first time I ever saw a plane with phones on the seats was in Red Eye, and I've flown qutie a bit.

It doesn't bother me since the families of the victims were contacted about the film and approve of it.

According to the information in the 9/11 commission report, the terrorists also claimed they had a bomb on board and would detonate it if anyone tried to take the plane back.

They didn't need to make it into the cabin. From what I've heard and read, the plane crashed because the pilot was porpoising it, trying to knock the passengers off their feet.

I remember the conversation i had with my friends the day it happened:

Me - "I dont get it. 4 terrorists versus 100 passengers"

Stephane - "So?"

Me - "Dude, if it was me, I would have gotten outta my seat and kicked their arses!"

Stephane - "you think you would pick on 4 terrorists skilled in hyper byatch kung fu Karate, with an arsenal of guns and weapons and bombs, with an insane bloodlust to kill all westerners in the name of Extremist Islam?"

me - "erm, yeh" :(
