Should I buy Final Fantasy X?

X was good so yes get it but,

Get 8 instead (if you can find it now).

VI, VII, VIII were the best three (not in that order)

and then IV and X vie for the four spot.

I'm going to have to agree with a few of the others. Go for 8. 10 was ok, but was far too linear. No world map or anything.

I enjoyed 10, because lets face it... it has the hardest optional battles of any Final Fantasy. Also, I didn't find Tidus too annoying (this is rare but what the heck) so I enjoyed the story too.

I dunno, the optional battles in FF7 and FF8 if you're tryin' em for the first time were damn hard.

True, true. Then there's also Omega in V. Ozma in IX too. Both pretty nasty, never did beat Ozma.

I am of course talking about the international version of FF10 rather than the easier US version.

The US version didn't have the Dark Aeons or Penance.

I never actually did get to fight Ozma in FF9 but I can't imagine it being tougher than the Dark Aeons.

For a quick comparison:
FF1-4: were there any particularly tough optional battle?
FF5: Omega, probably tougher than Omega Weapon in FF8 but beatable
FF6: Pretty much all of the World of Ruin was optional, but no particularly tough enemies.
FF7: Ruby and Emerald, when it came down to it these guys were easy since it didn't take long to do any required preparation.
FF8: Ultima Weapon wasn't hard at all, if you can actually get down there without dying then you should have no difficulties with the fight itself. Omega Weapon is somewhat challenging thanks to Terra Break but the defend ability comes in handy here, not to mention the prize for beating the Card Club.
FF9: Heard nasty things about Ozma
FF10: The US version has the custom monster creations, all of which are far tougher than anything before FF9. Especially the last one, Nemesis I think. I haven't beaten these yet because I haven't finished getting all the items I need. Then there's the Dark Aeons and Penance in the international versions which ALL have attacks that hit everyone for a guaranteed 99999 (unless you've got some serious protection).

I found Emerald in FF7 just a tad tricky for a while, but he wasn't too hard.

As for Ozma, I don't quite get what was hard about it. I'd never heard of it before I fought and killed it first try. It was simpler than Emerald weapon in FF7.
nope.

Yeah, but the other Final Fantasies don't really have an analogue for what happens in FFX. Ultima and Omega in FFX were total pushovers, far easier than any of their other incarnations.

I'm fairly sure that in the international version of FFX Omega is tougher too. Whilst I was never in any danger of getting killed, it took about [some number around 10-20] rounds of Auron's 99999 attack to kill it, and after looking up the stats for the US version it seems that it would have only taken 1 round in the easy version of the game.

Did you beat him in them 20 minutes?

Underwater materia negates that time limit. ¬¬
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

It's possible to beat Emerald in 20 minutes, just a pain. I had about 15 seconds left... moment of glory. Incidentally I also recall killing him right when the time went to zero. I lost. :p

8 was the only one I really mastered. I was getting pretty far in 7, then my cousin saved over my game

Of course you should buy a copy of Remo Williams: The Adventure begins.
In fact, go out and buy three right now. Fred Ward needs to eat, and Wilford Brimley may have a diabetic attack if you don't give him some money now. Plus Yoda is in the movie, and everyone knows you love Yoda. The best part is the scene where Yoda pretty much totally womps everybody.
