Hey Demon_Nightmare, how about your country stops buying athletes from other countries? There's a distinct difference between relocating to a country and having the US Congress pass an act specifically so a foreigner can compete in the Olympics for the United States.

Right. So that's one for "Don't care why world hates USA".
Respect goes both ways, Demon_Nightmare. I don't see Canadians sewing American flags to their backpacks after all. Why should you be entitled to special treatment when your citizens don't show respect to us? ...Oh right, you aren't.
You do realize this stuff isn't USA-exclusive, right? In the past, other governments have convinced athletes to become citizens of their countries with the same intent. This is essentially the unofficial equivalent of what the US did. To act like the US set a precedent is ridiculous.

And really, with all that in mind, what's so bad about it anyway? As far as I know, it's up to the athlete to make the decision. You should be more concerned that Tanith Belbin was such a "traitor". She obviously had to feel enough goodwill towards the USA to represent it instead of her own country.

As for the fact that some of the US fans and athletes are outstandingly rude: do you honestly believe Americans are the only obnoxious supporters in the world? Have you ever once watched European sports? Assuming you haven't, let me assure you they are everything the US fans are plus racist chants, nazi salutes, and other revolting provocation. Thankfully, I can admit the ones who go to these extremes are a minority, but they're still there. Being an *** is human nature.

Hehe. I just saw a Swiss and a Finnish hockey player get into a pretty big brawl. Good stuff.

[Edit]Now the band they apparently have is playing the Mortal Kombat theme. :D

[Edit 2]Apparently this is also women's hockey. It took me over ten minutes of watching to figure it out (was watching without sound).

Men's is still going on from what I hear. And you just missed the USA women's team. I'm pretty sure the event is still hopping with other teams. ;)

It remains the southern hemisphere's only ever winter olympics gold medal.

Thereafter in Australia watching everyone else crash out and stealing a win is known as 'pulling a Bradbury'.

That is ****ing awesome. SO damn cool.

Bugger, I missed the curling too.

Out of curiosity, did anyone else see that US woman on the luge that knocked herself unconscious at the corner and kept on sliding down the slope on her side. That looked nasty.
nope.

You are far too obsessed with politics. The whole world is going down the toilet, because when it comes down to it, people are just selfish idiots.

I'm mad. My broter-in-law (Brian Leetch) was all set to play on the USA Hockey Team this year, but they didn't pick him. He won a silver in Salt Lake a few years back, and I was hoping he would get a gold this year. Oh well, least he got one medal.

I like the olympics for two sports - regular olympics for beach volleyball, and winter olympics because it's hilarious watching people get very worked up about curling...

Oh and luge looks pretty awesome.

USA women's curling is still going on against Japan. Apparently curling isn't single elimination. CNBC if you want to watch and if you get it. NBC itself is just showing women's singles luge.

I just watched Australia win a gold medal in Men's Moguls. Dale Begg-Smith pulled off a killer run to win freestyle skiing. So now Australia has a legitimately earned gold medal. :)

I think I saw it. My brother is shooting for 2010 Olympics so all things olympics are swirling around me, but I have been busy. The race I saw him in he made an absolutely hardcore pass.

And the US women's curling team consists of cuties!

Anyone see the boarder cross race? (snowboard racing)

It was the American that held the lead for most of the race. The two Canadians both crashed out (one managed to get up and get bronze) and it was another country in second (I'm quite sure it was the Swiss).

Anyhoo, the American is leading, and both Canadians crash out, and the Swiss is in a far back second place. The American has the race in the bag. On the last jump, she shows off and does what looked like a nosegrab.

She tweaked it too much, and her landed got screwed up, causing her to wipe out. She tries to quickly get back up and win, but Swiss passes her. She lost because she was showing off, and she totally had the race in the bag. All she had to do was ride straight down the last stretch.

I just thought that this was quite humorous.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

I believe the move was a Method that she originally said she was doing to "correct" herself. "Correct herself"

By far, one of the worst sporting blunders to happen in a sporting event. NBC proceeded to slam her hardcore in the Chevrolet Olympic Moment stating how other incidents were different circumstances (either losing steam or making a mistake but still winning). In this case, she really did blow the gold.

I give her props for going on NBC with Bob after it and taking the hard questions, but man. That is JUST starting for her once she gets back home to the US.

US would've sweeped the snowboarding events with all golds, but proceed to lose it to someone trying to do a trick in one of the final jumps. *EDIT - For those that don't know, in this new event called the "Cross", they are racing down a track with other racers. The halfpipe encourages tricks, in this - tricks get you nothing. Hence her showing off*

Still in shock about it - can't imagine how she truely feels (figuring you can read right through her when she says "I still got a medal".)

Probably the most heartbreaking silver ever. Not cause you didn't get gold, but because you LOST the gold.

Wow, bad times for the US and Canada hockey teams. Canada falls to 2-2 after their game against Finland, US is something along the lines of 1-2-1. Looks like Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, and Russia are in medal contention.

Yes! Precisely--just like Chess. Fun to play (presumably), tactically interesting--mind-numbing to watch. It's 3/4 team tactical discussion, 1/4 slow object sliding across ice.

But maybe that's just me. I mean, hell, I find watching poker equally vacuous (yet, again, fun to play), but with all the poker that's shown on ESPN some people are obviously glued to it.
