The Giver

Has anyone else read this book? It's my favorite book. I've read it about 4 or 5 times already. I always thought "Hey, this would make a really cool film" So I decided to turn it into a script. Any other fans of the book? Any advice on script writing?

Good book. But how would you handle the whole can't-see-color thing? The book works because the readers assume that they can see color, until they're told otherwise, but the movie would have to be in black and white for the most part, and that would ruin some of the surprise.

Meh. My $0.02.

Yeah, I thought about that. Obviously the film would be black and white. Fans of the book will already know why, but people that haven't read the book would just assume it's a black and white film, until the apple part of course, then they'd start to think. I mean, that's how it would have to be done...right? :P

The best way to show respect for the book is to not try to turn it into a movie. Chances are it will suck no matter what you do.
2004-06-10, 11:54 AM #12
It's not like it's going to be a major hollywood motion picture. But my friend and I are getting a new camcorder and programs, and such, and I figure this was a really great book...so why not start there? Just for fun.

I didn't really like the book that much. It was an interesting concept and everything, but it just didn't completely do it for me.

Besides, why do you care if I make a script? You aren't gonna watch it :P It's film practice. I wanted all the massassians to chip in and help. Telling me which parts need to be in the script, and what they want to see etc...even if they don't watch it, I want it to be made right.

/takes baby out of his freezer.

There we go [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Actually, that's an easy part. We get two babies, because they all look the same! And whilst we inject one of them its kind of a side, back angle, on a fake baby doll or something, then we record the real baby when it is sleeping or something, then we put the fake baby in the box. It's pretty simple stuff. I am just worried about when the giver shows him the memories, because he goes to hot barren places, then to winter. We can pull it off though [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I love The Giver. As a matter of fact I didnt finish it to long ago. I also thought about how it would make a interesting movie. It has got to be one of my favorite books of all time. If you ever do make a film even if it sucks I wanna see it! I love that book.

I'm pretty sure it's already been made into a movie.
