Have you taken a look at Thunderbird yet?

Themes seem to be broken and the default theme is terrible. Other than that, it seems to be working great.

Thunderbird is very nice as well. However, I need to get my hands on a free Hotmail proxy to use with it.

Hehe, I wasn't totally serious...

But seriously, Firefox is too sluggish for me. I like Galeon. It's smaller, faster, uses GTK2, and isn't stripped down like epiphany is. Plus, it has a really cool 'myportal' homepage that is totally customizable.

What is this... Just yeaterday I finally got around to bringing a copy of 0.8 home (I'm to lazy to download it here, this I'm still using Firebird 0.7) and now it's out of date?

Well this sucks.

I don't like the Gnome DE, but I'm sane enough to use good Gnome apps. Come on, don't tell me you're gonna boycott Evolution, Gnumeric, Abiword, Gaim, Anjuta and Bluefish just because you dislike Gnome? It says that gnome is a requirement, but I don't have Gnome installed, only a couple libs.

When I'm here I like firefox, but when I'm doing serious browsing for research or whatever, it can't compare to Opera. Notes are amazing, the environment just seems slicker and more reactive... I can't put my finger on it! It never seems quite so quick as da Fox, in terms of download speed, but seems less... clucky.

You know what I mean?

Calm down, I'm just refering to the DE.

I'm not boycotting any of the apps, I just don't use them. The only apps I ever use are either on the command-line (Nvi is the best text editor ever), OpenOffice, Firefox, and Thunderbird. I do happen to use Gaim though, but that is hardly using GNOME. It just happens to use GTK. Actually, I use Gaim mostly under Windows anyway, since I usually do web browsing and multimedia under Windows and development under FreeBSD.

I have no idea what Bluefish or Anjuta do. I'm guessing that they are IDEs?

Are you sure about that? I thought it just had a GTK2 wrapper.

Ubuu:

Firefox interface: Like you said, clean. Opera, on the other hand, is very busy.

Firefox speed: Slow. It uses XUL, like mozilla, for it's interface. Just move the mouse right and left on the menus and you'll see what I mean. Then compare it to something like Internet Explorer on Windows or Galeon / Epiphany on Linux. There is definatly a speed difference.

With 5 minutes you can remove everything you don't like about the opera interface. It's INCREDIBLY easy to customize. You can remove every button/statusbar/pane/panel/etc., very easily.

Hint, RIGHT CLICK on something in the interface and the first option is "Remove from Toolbar" .. pfft

Same with Firefox...

And I'm sorry, but a browser with a big ole banner ad just doesn't win, no matter how good its features.

Because there are other programs that are as good if not better for free.

Check startup times. I don't know about windows, but I do know that Galeon and Opera's interface is snappier on linux.

Mystic, whenever I right-click with IE, on ANY Windows machine, it always takes ~1 second or more for the menu to appear. With Firefox, its instant. No delay. BAM.

Of course the startup times are going to be different in Windows. IE is built into the freaking system, thus it has an advantage. Reguardless, FireFox is nowhere NEAR as slow so you tried to make it seem.
