I don't ever remember anything about this on massassi before, but I found this link somewhere else and after watching the movie I WANT this game, it's got such a cool concept.

http://www.gamingsteve.com/archives/2006/03/spore_gameplay_1.php

bit of a long watch, around 36 minutes of footage but it's well worth it.

(Oh crap, I must be a Maxis plant now, hahahah)

EDIT: It's also on Google Video; that's where I first saw it: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198&q=spore

...that is incredibly amazing.

At first, I was like.. "That looks kind of lame.. You just run around eating those little green blobs?"

Best part was when he expanded out to see the whole world.

Wow.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Eh, it looks ok. It seems like it'll fall under the B&W curse though: cool idea but boring after a week.

Maybe, but I'm willing to part with £35 for a week's joygasm. Depends on spec and platform naturally though :(

Nobody says it was a new never-before-seen concept.

Not all of us want to play Nintendo games that are thirteen years old, btw.

Thats all I've been freaking hearing about this game.

I don't have any beef with it, other than that.

I hadn't heard anything about it until now - and to be honest, it looks too repetitive / slow-paced for my taste.

Its not really all like EVO except for the first part. Once its no longer a solitary creature it becomes something new.

I like the way it keeps scaling. You keep thinking, the game's over right, that's going to be really long and have a lot re-play value as it is. But then it keeps going. Because of the way it could appeal to so many people this could be a huge seller.
2006-03-04, 10:14 AM #24
Aye.

Also, am I the only one who liked the look of the really simple bit at the start? Where you literally are just a little spore gaining tentacles, mandibles, spikes and stuff?
2006-03-04, 11:21 AM #25
This looks like a perfect game for me. The perfect open ended game!

And think of the possibilities all of the procedural things will open up for all genres of games? THINK OF THE SABER FIGHTING.

It'd be neat if it was just circular.

Like you get to the universe level.

BUT WAIT WHATS THIS? Oh, the universe is another drop of water.

I'd like it if when you get your galaxy all worked out (the video cut off, can you go higher? I MUST KNOW, I WANT THE FULL GDC VIDEO!) then it would be pretty neat if it became multiplayer and you could have intergalactic wars.

Official system requirements are not known yet.

SimCity Central estimates

* CPU: Pentium 4 1.4 GHz or equivalent.
* RAM: 512Mb.
* Video: 64Mb with Direct3D support.

That would be hilarious. Especially to see the look on the person's faces who realizes that after sinking 100+ hours into his Universe.

It'd be even better if the last evolution was a giant ad for the new Futurama DVDs.

Wow. This really does look very amazing. This looks like wright is going to finally give us the opportunity to be very demented.

I do hope the UFOs aren't standard... I'd rather have rugged Battlecruisers and dropships than super flysing saucerss...

I highly doubt anything in this game will simply be "standard."

If you notice, though, his UFO was the same sort of style that his little city was. So I assume you'll be in complete creative control of the ufo.

The GDC video:
http://www.pqhp.com/cmp/gdctv/

Will Wright's keynote is towards the bottom. You'll also need to register, or bugmenot your way into viewing the video. It's been around for almost a year, I'm surprised it took so long to get on Google Video.

He's doing another presentation at this year's GDC. I wish I had the money to go, but I'm sure his video will be on the GDC website again after it is over sometime this month.

This is the one game that I'm truly excited about this year. Oblivion? cool but I can't run it well. STALKER? A DNF clone. But Spore? This game looks absolutely awesome.

I saw this a while ago when the offical GDC video came out, I was amazed. Also, I actually heard about the idea for the game a while before that, and didn't buy it. But wow, I was wrong.

2006-03-04, 4:23 PM #40
yeah, pretty much everything has it's own editor in it, you can build and sculpt your own city buildings and cars and planes and stuff, So I assume you could build your own UFO.

He said in the presentation that the other stuff is all made by other players... does that mean that you can connect with other players and download their solarsystem in your galaxy, or will you be able to actually intereact with them.

either way it's kinda cool.
