I got a Gmail account today. The interface is incredibly clean and easy to use. It sucks not having a "delete" button for emails, though. You can sort of delete, by selecting the message, moving it to the trash, then selecting it again and clicking "Delete forever," but it's a big pain.

They basically want to keep every message EVER. Which is lame, because there's some things I don't want to keep at all... like, I KNOW I'll never use it again and I won't care about it ever, so why bother having it come up when I run searches and whatnot?

You're lucky. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] I've been trying to get an invite forever. I heard a lot of active blogs received invites and so I tried one of those, but I didn't receive anything.

Bah.

Blogger users were given invitations to send out. That's how I got mine. Also supposedly after using Gmail for a while, users will also be given some invitations. I haven't gotten any to give out yet though.

Gmail by far has the best webmail interface I've ever seen. They put enough time into it to make it function like it's running on a mail client. It's a whole lot faster than Hotmail or Yahoo too.

Since I use my pop3 account for most things, it'll probably get used on junk or something.

Do you have to pay for Spymac?

Also, will you be able to connect to Gmail through a mail client, or will you have to use the web interface?

Yeah, the gmail interface is cool, it even has auto-complete (via javascript!) in the "to" field.

I have connections. I can't tell you about them, or else I'd have to kill you.

No, really one of my friends got into the beta and got 3 invites for some reason, and he used one on me. I don't have any invites so I can't let others in [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I doubt I'll use it all that much since I love my own massassi email addresses [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

They have not implemented POP3 support yet, but they claim they will.

I think the POP3 mail they claim they will support is using extraneous pop3, not allowing you to pop3.google.com or whatever from Thunderbird. They want us to use their clever interface.

I only think so because their Groups service doesn't let you get the lists from a newsreader. You can only use their web interface.

I don't see what the big deal is with gmail. 1GB of storage...wow...if you have enough email to fill that up...just wow. So it's pointless, epenis++ aside. I'll stick to my @utexas.edu account and thunderbird.

Because then they can't show you their targeted ads.

I personally hate going to a browser to check my mail... it just feels so clunky, no matter how good the interface is. I like to have my calender and mail in the same interface.

The interface on gmail is actually really, really nice. It doesn't feel like a web interface, because it's all dynamic like a regular mail client.

Yeah, I probably won't use it much either, but it's one of those... "ooh, that's nice" things. Then you forget about it and go back to what has been working fine for years [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

G-Mail is Google's new mail service, promising 1gig of storage in return for targeted adds. They're in beat testing at the moment, i believe. or is this just a invite only to start hype?
