Your next car

My next car:

Make: Ford
Model: BA Falcon XR6 Turbo
Transmission: 4 speed auto with sports shift, rear-wheel drive
Engine: 4.0-litre, inline six-cylinder, 24-valves, turbocharged/intercooled
Power: 240 KW @ 5250 rpm
0-100km: 6.0 seconds

Got her all picked out, the colour and model and everything. One day soon she will be mine.

There's only one problem - I cant legally drive it yet! I'm still on my probationary licence for the next few months and according to state government regulations this thing has too much power to weight

Oh well. The day I get my full licence I can go out and buy this sexy beast.

Post your next car! Or your current car, if you really love it or something...

No idea. I was going to rent a new car, but with my accidents on my record, I'm ****ed until I'm 25 years old. Buying/renting a new car will cost me around 2600$ + tax per year.

Hopefully the 06 Civic. As I see it though, it'll probably be something <5,000 around here. Probably get it with graduation money, might even sell my computer depending on how much I need for it.

But the 06 Civic would be awesome to have.

Some variant of green. 1.8 Ghia.

A decided step up from the old car - a G-reg (approx 14 years old?) Nissan Micra. Although that had once been owned by Edward Woodward's daughter apparently.

I'll probably get one after graduating with my Masters, which won't be for another 3.5-4 years. So I have no idea.

Seriously it is like there is no such thing as a small, fast manual here in america. It's like, Celica and Tiburon, neither of which are domestic.

It's because most Americans realize that domestic vehicles are generally a 3 year car and don't want to waste that money. Foreign vehicles are proven to be more reliable, last longer, and retain more value. == better investment.

Hell yeah Brian. Is that the Ulysses or the Lightning? I prefer a Ulysses myself. Dual sports are awesome. I am all giddy now.

[Well, now it's obviously a Lightning.]

I want a Lightning just so I can slap a Geek Squad logo on either side and roll around the cities on it. :)

Either some sort of truck, or something with sick-*** gas mileage. STill looking for something feasible that qualifies for the latter.

My next car will be a third generation Camaro. Either a 1987-90 IROC-Z, a 91-92 Z-28, or a 91-92 RS. It will have T Tops. There were a variety of engine options for these years. There was a Throttle Body Injected (TBI) 305 (5 liter) small block, a Tuned Port Injected (TPI) 305 (5.0L) small block, and a 350 (5.7L) TPI small block. There was also a V6, but I would never consider this due to how weak it was and the lack of aftermarket support. Parts for a chevy V8 are abundant. No matter which V-8 car you have, any of the other V-8 engines are almost a direct drop-in modification, as well as any other Chevy V-8 from anything newer. If I can find a 92-95 Corvette or 94-95 Camaro LT1 motor, I would swap it out.

There was either a 5 speed manual, or a 4 speed automatic. The 5 speed manual was NEVER placed behind the 350 block due to concerns with it handling the torque. I want one with a 4 speed automatic, because the 5 speed "T-5" manual transmissions that were put in these cars were notorious for breaking under pressure (hence GM NEVER putting it behind the 350) whereas the "700-R4" automatic transmissions were beasts. Sure they had their flaws, but were MUCH better than their 5 speed counterparts and could be made to be MUCH faster than the 5 speed in an otherwise equal car. Keep in mind even the best human shifter cannot shift as fast as an automatic transmission can. I know there are a lot of "manual fanboys" on here, but if you have ever driven a powerful car with a performance automatic, you know they literally snap your neck and chirp the tires when they shift at wide open throttle. Rice burners like manuals because their engine is usually so small that they have to worry about loosing power to all the friction created in an automatic. When your making 300-500 ft/lbs of torque you tend to not give a damn. If I do end up with a 5 speed car, I will replace it with a T-56 6 speed manual from a 93-97 camaro/corvette. These were rated to like 600 ft/lbs I believe. Remember, horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

I would be satisfied with either of the 3 V-8 engines, however a 350 TPI would be desirable. I have more than enough cash in hand, I am simply waiting for the right car to come along. I have been looking for 6 months and will continue to look until I find her.

It will be my daily driver and at the same time my project. I will dump every penny I earn into making her as beautiful and as fast as possible.

Here are some pictures of them.

I feel sorry for those who have never been exposed to the true roar of a crude and powerful american muscle car  It cracks me up when people try to give me the "gas mileage" jab. If you plan your **** right, and get the gearing dead on, with a 350 (5.7L) you can cruise down the highway at 75 mph at 1200 RPMs and get close to 40mpg.

Did you check out the GTO? It hardly huge, and I would have a hard time passing up on a 6 speed manual behind the 400 ft/lb 6.0 Ls2. I mean hell....if you want to go fast then you want to go fast. Theres no replacement for displacement ;)

They came out with the lightning long which is cool because I'm almost 6' tall. I'm going to ge that one. I like how the firebolts look with the small fairing. They don't come on the lightning, but the dealer told me I could get a kit for the lightning so it's all good.

Dual sports are alright, but everyone says, "when you buy a dual sport, you get an average street bike and an average dirt bike" - which is still better than none at all.

But the Ulysses is cool. Not many people ride buells around here, I've only seen one guy on one. That's another reason I want to get one (that + they look and sound awesome, I love how stubby they look compared to other bikes).

Subaru Imprezza WRX STi.

Very small for a 4-door, fast, manual, and you can tune the bejezus out of it and make it ultra-fast.

And yes, Aussie Fords > American Ford. It's much the same as with our GMs (called Holden over here), see the Pontiac GTO which is simply a rebadged Aussie made Holden Monaro.

It's much harder to fall off of a motorcycle than it is a bicycle, believe it or not.

Also, I want a DMC-12

My current car is an '04 Ford Focus ZTS 4-Door Sadan. My next car will probably be a Ford. I might go with the BA Falcon XR6 Turbo as my next car. It looks like they cross-bred an '04 Focus with a '98 Mustang. Which I think is pretty sweet! :D

Probably true but the amount of pain that must be involved is a fairly large deterrent.

Falling off isn't really the issue, it's taking corners too fast and wrecking or getting hit by other drivers who don't look down the road before they pull into traffic. If you aren't completely paranoid about other drivers 100% of the time, you have no business driving a motorcycle on the streets.

I just meant in a general sense.

i don't get it. with all the troubles the american car companies have been going through over the past decade, why don't they stop spending millions on r+d, buy a civic or corolla for >$20,000, and copy it. they'll start selling cars again. first they have to fire whoever it is that keeps deciding to build giant bus sized gas guzzlers that don't fit on the streets of toronto, new york etc...

my next car will be an accord. i'll be trading a civic in for it. i currently have 2 civics. a 2001 and a 2004.
HONDA!!

in saying that, Dash, I LOVE that camaro. i would love an 89 IROC. brick red like the first pic you posted.
2006-03-19, 9:30 AM #40
Well, my wife has a 2002 accord and personally, I think it bites. My main complaint is the fact that it's too heavy, and the brakes are underdesigned so they need replacement every 10,000 miles (and she drives and brakes slowly). It also needs performance tires due to the weight (so you end up spending 150-200 PER TIRE). The leather on the interior is cracking. The gold emblems she paid extra for are fading, well, the paint is running and staining the white paint around them. The spoiler on the back has shifted, the automatic trunk opening mechanism only works sometimes, and the windsheild and wipers are designed poorly so they always leave a big vertical line right in front of the driver.

My favorite cars for reliability and quality have always been subarus. They're just built better, in my opinion.

I think after all the hype of hondas lasting so long, they rushed so many to market that the quality has dropped. Maybe that's why everyone buys toyotas nowadays.
