Seems like good stuff, reminds me of Deus Ex too.

Feels more C&C-ish with those mechs.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I don't like the voice acting. Or maybe it's the lines. They were too corny. Anyway, looks cool.
2006-03-21, 9:56 AM #5
The dialogue was a bit lame, but the action looked good.

What's this? A Battletech-like Battlefield game? I've been saying that should be done for years...

...although it would be way cooler in the actual MechWarrior universe.

Looks like a combo of battlefield and mechwarrior. I like it
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Not impressed.

Kind of a Mechwarrior meets Battlefield meets Halo meets The Day After Tomorrow.

Anyone else notice the thumb when they were choosing the options on the little computer-thingy? That's a "must try harder" animation if ever I saw one :p

The voice reminded me of Fallout, to be honest. "War...war never changes...".
You know who I mean :p

What's wrong with the voice acting? I really liked it. Much crisper and far more powerful than the average game dialogue. I found the guy's distinctive voice very likable.

I'm sure I've seen that handheld computer thing before. It looks like an e-paper prototype, I think.

Why are Mechs the future? By then we'll be flying everything, and soldier-to-soldier combat won't be a concept at all.

It's just a game, not an actual representation of the future.... You know, fiction?
nope.

The story is a gigantic part of it for some gamers. When the story is driven by the want to make a mech game, I get a little annoyed. If the terrain made sense for a mech, we wouldn't be having this convorsation. It's common knowledge that bipeds aren't very good for any sort of terrain or combat. Our upright position is so that we can use our thumbs to use tools. A mech does not need to use tools. Mechs are stupid.

1) Storyline? This is battlefield. Seriously. That's like asking for a story with UT...it wouldn't be a pretty sight if it did exist.

2) Read a few Mechwarrior novels--I'll even point you in the right direction. It'll explain why exactly Mechs make sense. And they do make sense.

3) Humanity is all about scaling up the battles. The ultimate way to scale up the battles would be to make a humanesque warmachine roughly the size of a skyscraper.

The voice was fine, the lines said were bad. I also agree with Kirby, but I also have a huge bias against mechs, so... yeah.

Mechs are all about spending excessive money to show off. Which is -exactly- what makes for a good war.

God I love that theme song.
So, we're in the future. Anyone expecting Aliens in the expansion pack?
Wait, this is an expansion pack. Fumbledore.

-Considering ole MacArthur feared an interplanetary war, I'd say that EA would be remiss if a future BF game didn't feature one.

I'm not so sure about in reality, but they do in the Battletech universe. Nor are they really practical. But it's fiction, and they are cool, and that's all that matters. So I don't see why Kirby is talking.

Mechs AREN'T cool, that's why I'm talking. I hate the slow moving stupidity of mechs. The peripheral vision, the peripheral aim... It's just a stupid design idea, and reflects in mech gameplay.

Speed and visual accuity are things you get once a game comes out. This game hasn't come out.

The adoption of Mechs in warfare will solely depend on how spacefaring technology is developed. If its like ST/SW style ships, you'll have spacebattles over planets more. With Battletech style ships, having to charge everytime you go someplace, it'll be combat on the ground using the most powerful equipment you could've brought on that ship, which would be Mechs, most bang for the buck.

Easy of Transportation will define what will happen.

Modern instruments of war don't exactly have wonderful peripheral vision. Think of a tank with it's lid on for crying out loud.

Someone needs to play Mechwarrior4.

God I love that game!

Oh man, I remember Mechwarrior 3. Best mech game of all time, methinks. Closely followed by, if not equal to, Mechwarrior 2. :D
DO NOT WANT.

Uh...yeah...not like they'll make cameras, radar, sonar (for water mechs), etc available for you to use. I think Kirby doesn't grasp that you're not looking out the viewport in a mech, and I think I need to reiterate READ ****ING BATTLETECH.

BF2142 vs. Quake Wars

Hmmm. IMO it kinda runes that allure of the BF franchise, but if it's a good game it doesn't matter. When I hear that badum bum da dum dum, I want to think of Corsairs diving under a bridge on Wake Island to avoid Anti Air and Destroyer guns taking out tanks, but now... :(

It has potential, but that trailer really didn't do anything for me.

I'm gonna buy it, but I don't have high expectations.
2006-03-22, 4:25 PM #40
The one thing Mech games don't have going for them is they don't support Multi-moniter like flight sims do, if they did, OMFG
