OhmygawdOhmygawdOhmygawd (Battlefield 2142)

Looks amazing. The atmosphere and content is just what I've been looking for.

The beginning intro is a combination of The Day After Tomorrow and Ace Combat 4... this game is intriguing.

The internal frames show alot of hydraulics and some other technical bits... I saw a nice pic awhile back of a Zaku's internal frame... I'll dig it up later. Till then, this should suffice: http://www.ultimatemark.com/gundam/images/gundam_frame.gif thats lacking propellant tanks, arms and the head too...

Also, Battletech/Mechwarrior mechs have jump jets that vent plasma to jump right?(Thats the way I remember it...) It seems a little unreal to me. Most mobile suits use thermonuclear rockets, which will run out of fuel.

Hydraulics? I somehow doubt that hydraulics could power a mech with any sort of ease, but whatever.

And jump jets aren't a part of the argument. Technically, plasma jump jets run out of fuel too. They talk about using it sparingly. And at least plasma exists--rockets powered by fusion (which I assume is what the vague "thermonuclear rockets" refers to) don't.

Well, regarding the evolution argument...I'm pretty sure that in the 31st century, computer and gyroscopic technology would be the same, even better. We've gotten pretty close so far. I don't think "it's a machine, so it's different" really cuts it. But it's fiction anyway, and I don't really care.

Errr...

Thermonuclear rockets have been tested... The reactor's heat is used to ignite the propellant through various chambers and whatnot. I remember it being quite efficient.

Yay for uneducated, unbacked up speculation. At best.

Commander--those rocket tests do indeed exist--but they never saw really good, solid evidence of their workings. And that skeleton may be detailed, but that still has nothing at all whatsoever to do with proving that hydraulics can power a machine of that size, weight, and power.

It's a GAME..... With big walking Mech Thingies....... You care dearly about the rights and wrongs of this.... why..... exactly?

How the physics of it stands up is irrelevant. The point is you're driving a mechanical godzilla down the streets, stomping on houses while the peasants run in fear.

I hope someone makes MW5 soon.

Wow...

I was debating myself whether or not to build a fast new computer.

I think this trailer answered my question...

I found something interesting regarding mechanics...

Quote:
Its joints were driven by a fluid pulse system, which used a pulse converter to turn the energy produced by the atomic reactor into pulses of pressure within a fluid. Thousands of fluid pipes, finer than human hairs, transmitted these pulses at supersonic speed to the rotary cylinders which drove the joints. This system yielded a higher operating speed than hydraulics, and lower weight and greater structural simplicity than electric motors.

This one's new to me... But Mark Simmons usually knows what he's talking about.

Um, yes, it is speculation. That's exactly what the scope of my statement was: speculation. I thought it fairly clear that I am not seriously taking part in this "debate." Stop trying to make me look stupid.

Because it's fun to debate the rights and wrongs, and to theorize? That and I think the Gundam universe is bunk.

Then why'd you even say anything? You make yourself look stupid, I don't have to say anything to help, sir.

Because I wanted to speculate on what that aspect of technology might be like in the 31st century? There are plenty of other posts in this thread which are even less constructive than mine, and you did not comment on them. No, I do nothing to make myself look stupid. Drop this personal vendetta you have against me, it's quite ridiculous.

I don't have any vendetta. The only thing the other posts said was "Why are you arguing this?" I simply ignore said posts. You tried to contribute and failed...miserably.

PS--none of this has to do with technology in the 31st century. It's mostly 2100-2400. Though I'm not sure about the Gundam timeline.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I was going to saying something else, but I think anything that could be said about you and your posts has already been implied.

Oh, and you're right - I had the wrong Battletech era. But, 2100-2400? The Battlemech wasn't invented until 2439.

2100 Is when BF2142 takes place. 2400 is when the BattleTech (classic) novels take place.

Gundamwise there are several alternate universes, but the oldest and probably most popular one is Universal Century. The famed One Year War, which saw the first large scale use of mobile suits, begins on March 1, UC 0079.

The "official" date of UC 0001 is somewhere about 2045 AD which would put the OYW at about 2123 AD.

The first prototype of the MS-05 Zaku I(First combat capable unit) was completed in February of UC 0074. The Unmanned MS-01 prototype was completed in 0073. The MS-05 went into full mass-production in April 0076.

The infamous Minovsky Particle was discovered in UC 0065.

That took some looking up to do...
