You know, the one that got posted here like ten times in less that a week? Well, that thing looks positively quaint now: Check this thing out

Scroll down to the bottom and watch the video. We have arrived onto the future.

Right, but we already saw a video of that a month ago. The whole point of this is that it's big.

Maybe as it is...but flip it 90 degrees and you've got a huge tabletop ready for interactive display. Board meetings, military use, and even super-expensive gaming a la what we saw with the other thread I posted would be awesome.

Dunno what you posted in the other thread, but having multiple players on that thing would be amazing for computer games. Though I imagine you could cheat and resize someone's window if you had a moment :p

Because I'm sure that tiny little table has all the interactivity and functionality of this monolith.

Actually, looking at the image, it looks either like a SmartBoard or whatever, or the thing I posted just recently. Exactly like, even.

I have no idea, I don't work for Northrop. :) Since it's used for military applications, in all honesty it probably does. (One could also argue that interactivity and functionality are more a product of the software than the hardware anyway.) Regardless, I'm just saying the same type of technology already exists. Plus this is just what they are showing on a public site.

Per genk's comment, looking at it again, it does indeed look like a projected image since you can see the image on his hand so it is different. The self contained aspect of the Panasonic design is very cool (and it is definetly bigger in size). However, the Panasonic video wall is in reality a bunch of small screens not really any different than a video wall at Best Buy or other electronics stores, they just happen to be touch screens. When it comes down to it, it's two different methods of achieveing the same thing.

No, actually, it's one BIG screen. If you notice in the videos section the little sections break down and turn into one big screen. It really is just a big, touchscreen LCD with multiple touch-points, whereas the small projected screen that the military uses probably uses motion sensing cameras (a la smartboard) meaning it's much less useful.

That thing has some crazy high resolution. Anyone know what it running at? Also, it looks like it does something to make it look 3D. This would be awesome ot game on.
2006-03-28, 5:53 PM #27
Well, they say it's made up of 2 110" panels, so I'd imagine both panels would be HD... which would make it 3840 * 1080.

Unless they're using those newfangled 4xHD displays, which would be insanely cool, but I've never seen a computer that could run at 7680 * 2160.

Quad SLI 7900GTX's probably could.

Hahaha, true. Well, just barely. And that's assuming that you can take four cards that can push 2560 * 1600 pixels and somehow use them to drive two displays at 3840 * 2160.

It'd be interesting to see, actually.

I don't doubt that you could do it, now that SLi has dual monitor support. It would be interesting to see, though.

Perhaps some games... but duel link DVI only does up to 2560x1600, so there really is no way to find out.

Well in that case you would not need a very powerful video card, just one that can connectors to drive that sort of resolution. Dual link DVI only goes up to 2560 x1600 in 3D or 2D. On the other hand of the display was set up properly and Nvidia released the right drivers, the monitor could have several connections that went hooked up to four of five of the connectors on the cards... Though I think when that happens the refresh rate plummets. Of course they wouldn't be running in SLI mode.

That remote thing they show? I have a wireless PC game controller that looks just like that, i'll post pics later.
