Should there be a Jedi Knight IV?

Let's just get to the source of the issue: They need to release the source for Jedi Knight. But FIRST, we need to find out how to make hell freeze over.

The series is going downhill, but I'd still get JK4.

Or at least get it somehow [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]

However, new Dark Forces or a FPS where you play as the Imperials would be better... at the moment.

I enjoyed JK, JO, and JA. They were all quality games, but only JK seemed complete with multiplayer and single player. JO had cheesy SP; JA had cheesy MP. They also need a new gfx engine; Republic Commando is looking pretty sweet with that Unreal engine.

JK and MotS had big, beautiful maps and decent storylines (especially MotS, h3ll y3ah). There seemed to be a unique "Star Wars" feel to them. Everything seemed dark . . . as opposed to the bright, cartoon-like JO and JA.

I am also getting sick of the whole stop-dude-trying-to-take-over-galaxy-or-completely-wipe-out-new-republic plots. It was good in JK because it was done for the first time. Then in MotS there were tasks and missions that deviated from the plot mentioned above; overall, that went well. Then JO went back to the crappy plot again, and it sucked. JA tried to go to missions, but they seemed to be short in number and eventually climaxed with a massive take-over-the-galaxy-idea. Sadly, it was better than JO but with mixed results.

I wish for a JK4, but I really want it to bring back the JK and MotS days where there were lots of people who enjoyed SP and MP, had lots of modders and fan sites, and had an active community.

Note: entertain the gunners, they are the majority.

The physics are also too different, in JO everything just felt like it floated. Whereas in JK it gave off the feel of having force (no pun intended) in the movement.

You have a point there about the physics. Somehow in JK, the explosions kind of had more "oomph" to it.
You know, it's strange that not alot of you like JO. I thought alot of people would like it: based on its [urlhttp://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/516547.asp?q=jediknight]88% rating at gamerankings[/url].

And when was the ranking given? Opinions can change over time. I DID like it, when I first got it. I thought it was great. Until I figured out where the plot was headed. Until I saw the people who played online and how intolerant they were of Modem players. That game has turned me off. I'll run through Single Player every now and then, but only as a boredom killer.

I like my games to have massive, immersive levels. If you take away the boss levels, JK had 14 massive levels. I remember staring at my screen in disbelief when I saw Jerec's palace in Baron's Hed for the first time. That whole level was massive. That goes for the fuel station too. Those levels were awesome. Put simply, if Lucasarts decide to do JK 4, it has to be a remake of JK and it has to be damn good.

Not that I want to put too much pressure on them [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I like the quake3 engine. So I think Jk4 should be based on that. But to have a good storyline most of all I think JK of all had the best plot to it. 7 Dark jedi trying to help jeric take the valleys power. It had a good plot cause at first jeric did not know where the valley was he was going mad trying to get the location and at the same time your chasing 8t88 around. And by the time you get that disc back you want to decode it and see what is so important you come back home, and find these dark jedi. there you wait for them to leave and go on an epic quest then you finally become aware of the whats going on. Takes you through barons head But every part of the game you would come across a boss, and each boss would be one of those 7 dark jedi. What made this story line so good was the long levels that would take you hours to figure out your way around (I did it with out cheats) Thats what made it good. Oh I loved killing pedestrians.. That was when I was in 5th grade I got it I loved starwars and it really felt like an epic adventure. by the time 8th grade rolls around (last year) get JO Turns out great engine but the plot totally sucked. The main Bad guy looks like a stupid dinosour, and his minon is a sariss wannabe. Yes Desaan was somewhat witty But I liked boc better he was hyper active. But then this really got me the stupid reborns. Please if ravensoft really wanted to show off its new saber engine yeah it was good atleast make players wait to fight a jedi. That is so stupid have an army of reborns sucking the valleys power. I mean it wasent epic cause everything you already know short levels. Jan's fake death was stupid although in JO she was butt ugly. Plus What I saw with Luke That just said okay has luke been taking anti depresants? Then after that outraguos revelation JA comes out. Heres kyle as your instructer I dient feel like a student I just felt Like a guy runnings random short missions. Alot of the missions where pretty fun. Running from a rancor with fleeing prisoners, Being chased by a bunched of cultist on swoops, battling alongside chewbacca. And battling a nuclear powered rancor. And I must admit you did have somewhat of a plot. You had an arch enemy named "allora" She was tavions aprentice just as you are kyles aprentice. But then you still had Stupid reborns. I think they should make a JK4 Keep it on The quake 3 engine but keep kyle, and jaden out of it Have it as someone who weilds a gun work up to jedi make it epic thats all I have to say peace.

I would love another Jedi Knight game. I thought that JO and JA, while far from perfect, were great. I think they need to give the series a mjor overhaul though. An enhanced saber combat system, for one. I'm hoping for a system like the one they were going to have in Obi-Wan (before it got canned for PC) where your mouse movement controled your saber attacks. And for ranged weapons, give us fewer, but more effective weapons. The saber was so powerful is JO and JA that you very rarely needed to use any of the blasters. I think Painkiller has what are quite possibly the best weapons in any FPS for this reason - you only have 5 weapons, but they're all well thought out and balanced. You make use of all of them, not just the rocket launcher or shotgun or whatever. And I do agree, they need to find a better plot than "hero needs to keep bad guy from destroying universe." I think a game set during the Clone Wars would be cool, or a prequel to Jedi Knight where you play as Rahn (if memory serves, Rahn fought in the Clone Wars, so that could work out nicely...).

And to the people who think we need a shooter with no force/lightsaber... no. The games are called Jedi Knight, and I buy them to play as a Jedi. If you want a pure Star Wars FPS... it's called Republic Commando (which looks very good, in my opinion).

As much as I love quake 3 engine, I don't want the next game using such an outdated engine.

I suggest using the same engine as Jedi Knight did.

If there was to be another, I'd like to see it be a Dark Forces type game. Having it be guns based. No Jedi stuff, I think that has been done to death now. In terms of a guns system, I'd like to see something like Halo's system implemented. We all know that there is no way in hell Kyle could carry that many guns at once, especially in those sizes. I think it should be something like Halo. You can have a max of two guns at a time. You have to choose what you want. This is one of the things I really love about Halo. You can't be a walking armory, you have to choose your weapons as best you can. I think Republic Commando has something like this, but I don't have very high hopes for that game.

They should take everything from Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and port it to a new engine. Whoopie. And try to make the scripting system compatible with COG to an extent.

MotS seemed empty to me. Maybe because it was too short. It seemed very claustraphobic, and it wasn't until the end (Sith Temples) that it really began to open up. But it sucked that you could not defeat Kyle. You go all that way to duel, then just lower your blade and it's over.

Maybe do a Bounty Hunter game in first person. Not like Jango Fett or whatever it was, but like you play a bounty hunter and go around and do stuff, then make a story out of it, like someone is putting a bounty on you, and you gotta figure out who it is.

I'm suppised no one has mentioned this site...
http://darkforces.jediknight.net/.

They have been workiong on the mod for a while, it's a JKA mod that lets you play their version of the Dark forces game. I never played DF and I can't find a working copy or demo around here, so i'm majorly looking forward to this mod... so those of you who want DF re-made, screw LEC doing it, the fans know what they want and they can make a good game/mod based on the amterials given. If you really want a remake of JK, get off your *** and make it, don't whine that LEC should do this or make this or re-do or re-make this... many people are already doing it.

I'd like to see another DF/JK series game, but in a totally different timeset. The GCW and New Republic timeframe is so cramped right now its not even funny. Too much going on there. Go back to the time of say, KotOR, and not only would it be a refereshing change, but people are familiar with it (if they played KotOR), and you can get away with a lot more in terms of story, and you don't even need to cook up a reason for having a lot of dark jedi around...

I'll admit to Reactor CTF, Duel Abyss, Duel Turbulent, Duel Dustball, and even the CCCP, but not Sky High! (my first, be kind!) Ok so maybe I will.

Grant, as much as I don't like to say this, I don't that DF mod will ever be completed. The progress is so slow that the community will be nonexistent when the mod is released.

I am annoyed how the storylines have to involve the biggest things in the galaxy and the most important people. I would rather have it set on a series of unfamiliar planets with totally new characters. There would be the presence of Star Wars, but it would be a refresher from all the New Republic vs. Empire stuff.

you can kill him, it is just a little tricky. You have to turn invul on and just keep slashing until he falls. It takes forever. He's not really invincible, he just has ridiculously high levels of health.

I needed invul to beat the last three levels of MotS. Of course, then I didn't use the mouse either, or strafing, and my Force reflexes were slower than anything...
I liked the statues though -- that was an awesome idea; the Vornskyrs, however, were outright annoying, as they leap I-dunno-how-many jkus to attack you. They scared me...

I wish I could find the manuals for those games [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] I haven't seen them for almost 4 years.

I HATE Vornskrs. Those damn things make a pit bull look like a puppy on prozac.

They sneak up on you, and they can jump straight up to hit you when you are about 10 jku above them. If I had a conc or a raildet (or even a repeater or strifle in a worst case scenario), they wouldn't be a problem, but if i only have a saber and force, they are very hard.

As for the undead sith, the first time I saw them, I was like "WTF?" b/c they weren't in the manual. However, it would have been better if they fought hand to hand with you instead of merely shooting force lightning. I only have to force-push them into a wall to kill them.

The noghri being in the sith temple made no sense, b/c why would they be there? Also, logicall, wouldn't their presence activate the sith statues long before you got there?
