Does LEC Suck?
I think they made it too easy to become a jedi or something.
LMFAO

Here's the deal: We had 32 professions. All needed. You can change your profession anytime (but have to grind your new profession), and you can be in multiple professions (however that's limited to the number of "skill points" you can spend. For example, you can be a Doctor, a Teras Kasi Artist, and a Scout if you wanted, but then you will have no skillpoints left, and won't get any skillpoints until you give up some of those professions skills).

Like, if you were a Teras Kasi Artist (A Martial Artist basically in the Star Wars Galaxy, there's even a video game called that, that I used to love) and wanted to be an entertainer/musician/hairdresser instead, you have to drop all your skills in TKA and have to do entertainer/musician/hairdresser stuff to gain that exp, and you lose all of your TKA exp.

That was called the tree profession style gameplay. I loved it. It's the best thing to happen to MMO's.

What they did, is they decided to turn 32 professions into 9 classes. They gave Jedi, the profession that requires 1.5+ years of nonstop gameplay basically, free to little kiddies to everyone who wants it.

The game sucked from the start. Then last year on April 1st, they came out with the New Game Engine (NGE), featuring a more "star warsy" feel, and "a game playable to a more variety of ages" (A.K.A. 13 year olds now plague the game when there were virtually none before hand, and they immediatly chose Jedi as their class).

I quit thereafter, and I will not be cooperating with SOE or LEC anytime soon.

Okay, two points to this post, let's see if it can live up to 'em. The goals are to sum up the history of SWG in as few words as possible for those who are unfamiliar, and to then hopefully close the subject. Ready, go.

SWG started as a rather revolutionary entry to the realm of MMORPGs. It had a unique and diverse skill system, an equally good crafting system, and several very large and varied playing fields to explore. Its core system enforced community interaction while preserving individuality. Granted, it had its problems- the game was pushed to the market too soon and was missing some content it should have had, and there were a number of bugs to iron out. But generally, life was good. It was some time in the first year when the secret to becoming a jedi was revealed, and many players began to focus their energy on endless profession grinding. The community suffered a blow, and as time progressed, the population started to drop. The problem lessened slightly with the introduction of the first expansion- the addition of space content. But again the population problems returned, and players began to grow restless over their problems with bugs and combat. Thus, a revamp was set in motion. Strangely, the game's administration dropped it near completion and instead put forth a hastily-done revamp which radically changed the combat system. It removed a rather alarming amount of the content and turned the game away from its community-based roots. Furthermore, a player's strength was now determined by level rather than profession, and the game took a feel more akin to World of Warcraft. (There were no 'levels' before, which ruled. Just say no to levels.) Upset with the changes, many players left. A couple more expansions came, rather lacklustre bits heavily based on Revenge of the Sith- a confusing thing to add to a game set during the original trilogy. The day after the second of these expansions, the developers suddenly announced that they were changing the game's profession/combat system again, and that all players had a week to prepare. The new revamp was released in an unfinished state and dumbed the game down considerably. It condensed the original 32 professions to 9, the playstyles of which felt almost exactly the same. The combat changed to an innately flawed FPS style. It also made jedi a starting profession. (Most players didn't notice, cince the entire game was already clogged with 1337-speaking jedi on account of the fact that everyone and their grandmother already had one.) The frustration and a lack of trust for the developers eventually drove away an even greater number of players. And that brings us to the present, four months later without much of a solution from the developers and little headway gained on the game's problems.

Well, that was long. Looks like I lose on goal #1. As for goal #2, the power is yours.

Whoa! There's a thread just like this on Hardforums. I thought I was browsing that, and then I realized everything is green. Ugh. I'm not feeling good today.

If you google "Does LEC suck?," suprisingly this thread does not show up in the first 50 search results.
