If you could hold a WW2 weapon, what would it be?
2004-06-16, 7:28 AM #1
If you somehow could select real WW2 weapons to have, what would it be?

One from Allies and one from Axis? And a heavy weapon (like a tank, plane, cannon)?

Well, I would like to see a real British Sten Mk3 and a German Maschinenpistole 40.

I also like to ride a P-38.

I sat in the cockpit of a P-51D at a local airshow (I didn't fly in it). It ws beautiful. Deifinately my favorite plane. I also like the P-38 Lightning and P-40 Thunderbolt. I have several models of all three in my room. I built a radio controlled P-51 that I fly around sometimes.

I've also fired an M-1 Garand and a Mauser. They both fire and feel great, but I like the M-1 better for some unknown reason. Just personal preference, really.

About a year ago when my dad's friend resigned from his position as a commander in Naval Air, we got to tour the Norfolk Naval Base (the largest naval base in the world), and we got all this special access because he was still a ranking officer... whenever we boarded a ship like the U.S.S. Ross (DDG), they rang the bell and said "Commander, United States Navy, Boarding" [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]... that was tight... we got to go into quite a few ships, meet the COs...

but anyway, when we went over to the air station, i got to sit in the cockpit of an FA-18 hornet, which is actually not allowed at all, even with his clearance [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

German - FG42, definitely
American - Thompson
British - Bren
Japanese - Type 94 pistol, if only because of the ridiculous design flaw
Soviet - Don't know much about soviet weapons. I know there was a pretty wicked looking one with a large-count drum, but I don't remember the name.
