Games that should be remade
2004-06-15, 12:53 AM #1
I was feeling rather nostaligc this morning. So I dusted off my old computer and fired up gaming classics like Cannon Fodder and Stunts. This got me thinking. What games that I used to play as a kid would look awesome with today's updated graphics, sounds, etc. Here's what I came up with:
  • Cannon Fodder
  • X-Wing
  • Commander Keen (FPS)
  • Tie Fighter

Post your ideas.

The original theme park maybe? hmmmm.... maybe Dark Forces, because I've never had the pleasure of playing it.

Funny, the first thing I would've said was Tie Fighter too btw!

Definitely Cannon Fodder, so long as it wasn't overdone. I'll get you yet, El Presidente!

C&C Gold is probably the only other ne I can think of at the moment... apart from maybe JK with JO's graphics.

Oooooh! Oooooh! Syndicate and Syndicate Wars!

Final Fantasy VI: Actually, new graphics (or at least the best graphics PSOne can afford)... possibly voice acting (I don't want this actually at all, but... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]) and recreated soundtrack. Possibly new sidequests...

Final Fantasy VII: New graphics and recreated soundtrack. Possibly new sidequests...

Tie Fighter: Game where you will totally kick rebel asses and humiliate them to the extreme. Reworked graphics, and the original soundtrack recreated. Yum.

There are lots of more, but these are the three ones I'd definatly want to see. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I don't know, part of the quirky charm of the old games is their graphics.
I mean, Day of the Tentacle would never have the same unusual cartoony feel if it were made 3D and part of the Guybrush charm in MI1 and 2 was his pixellated good looks.

Actually, I think Commander Keen is being remade. (I can't find a link right now) PC Gamer had a little article a while back.

Tie fighter! Provided they remake the custom music in orchestrated form, and still don't use any of the movie soundtracks.

Also, strike commander (the flight sim none of you have ever heard of).

MI2 Guybrush definitely shouldn't be replaced with a disproportionate CMI-style Guybrush.
It might be nice if all the backgrounds were rescanned, I suppose.
What it really needs is all the music performed by real musicians, staying true to the original music, complete with the dynamics of iMUSE.

Yes yes yes yes yes. Even with a BGII type of engine, which would stay true to the original (for the combat, anyways). Or the combat part could be like the NWN engine.
I think it could also use some more music... It uses music that was actually written in that time period, and there's lots of music from then, all public domain (unless existing recordings are to be used).
Also, it could use some added gameplay features like more quests and storylines.

I would have mentioned Scorched Earth but it has already been redone. Just like old school Scorched but with a 3D playing field. You can download the updated version for free on-line, I know I have a link somewhere. Lemme look for it...bah, can't find it, just Google it.

Nevermind, got bored in class and looked it up http://www.scorched3d.co.uk [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

No. Putting the original Deus Ex on IW's buggy graphics system would ruin the game.

Has anyone played the new Pitfall remake? I rented it a while ago. I expected it to be bad, but it was suprisingly very good. The graphics were nice and cartoony (not to be confused with cel-shaded). The story was kind of cliche', but the funny dialogue more than makes up for it. The original Pitfall is also hidden in the game.

Goldeneye 007 - Rare unofficially did such with Perfect Dark, but that's not the same. Just an update in graphics and options, no adding (at least traditional) jumping or the like.

Chrono Trigger - I'm tossed between simply updated graphics or the 3-D deal -- that one unofficial mod-thing that never took off looked nice. Hell, I'd just as soon accept ANY traditional RPG that had Chrono Trigger's same-screen battles...

Mario Paint - I wants new 3-d one... they made it easy and fun [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Twisted Metal - I like the original's content and feel. Admittedly, I haven't played much of the sequels, but what I did play didn't fascinate me as much.

JK and/or DF with JA's graphics [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

And to put an advance vote in... Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift with HL2's engine [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

There are about a bajillion Nintendo games, especially N64, that while I love and don't necessarily wish to see an updated version, would want to rework them to add stuff. Like Starfox 64 -- there could have been so much more to the levels and design of the multiplayer!

Am I one of the only few that likes some of the older graphics on games? They give me that old school feeling and sometimes i'm more into those than the newer stuff. Like Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy III(VI) I loved the older style graphics and if they made a remake i'm sure i'd love that too but probably love the older style more.
