Chrono Trigger is beautiful.
But Geb, if you want awesome games with non-changing-scenes-stupid-battle-switches, you must must play Secret of Mana and Secret of Mana 2. The first has a kinda awkward control setup but you get used to it. The second's however is wodnerfully streamlined, it's real-time on-site battles like zelda, ie run around and hit things, not stay-in-one-place-jump-to-hit-things-then-return menu-driven like CT, but with a radial menu you can bring up for commands items or spells if you wish. SoM2 is one of the single most gorgeous SNES games i have ever layed eyes on.
