Clans (for the Scots and other)
2006-05-04, 6:43 PM #1
I saw in the <3 thread that there was a bit of heated clan rivalry going on - everyone, share your heritage!

I am a direct male line descendent of the heads of the Colquhoun (now spelled Cahoon for me) clan. We ruled.

Am I allowed to make up a clan?

I am from the clan Warhammer, and we made the vikings look like nancy-boys.

Dunno. I'll ask later and post when I know.

-On the upside, I'm Scotch-Irish, so I don't have to worry about confusing the accents.

Clan Buchanan

Ah, such a sad state of affairs when we don't even have a wikipedia page.

(Incidentally, my mom's side of the family come from the Morrison Clan, who do have a wikipedia page)

Take a wild guess.

(This is possibly the first time I've ever felt cool for being of Scottish descent.)

Lindsay clan.

I'm not happy with the current Earl of Crawford, however. Instead of keeping Crawford Priory in repair he looted it for statues and artwork. It was a nice place, too.

Edit: On my father's side I have knights and warrior-priests. On my mother's side I have...... carpenters.

Despite my name being Robert Wallace, I've got bugger all to do with Scotland. To my knowledge the guy my surname stems from emigrated from Scotland to Ireland a few hundred years ago, then around 100-150 years ago a bunch of Irish Wallaces left for South Africa. Finally one of them (my Dad) met an Englishwoman, went to England with her and started a family, and here I am.

We do have a kick-arse family crest and the Wallace Red Tartan is pretty cool.

"The reputation of the Ruthvens as assassins was strengthened by a mysterious affair which became known as the "Gowrie Conspiracy" in 1600. John and Alexander Ruthven were killed in Gowrie House during an alleged attempt on the person of James VI."

We're said to be from Thor, and first popped up around 1200-1400 A.D.

We were a small clan, of idiots.

I'll post the other clans i'm from later

whoah my history is confusing

ok, from my mothers side, i come from Ruthven, which became McSwan (no crest), very small clan.
My mothers mother was from the Harris clan, which are affilated/born of the Stuarts of Scotland.
These bloodlines are 100% scottish/viking.

From my Fathers side, we fare from Scandanavia, Germany, and ireland. These blokes moved to scotland, and became some of teh Campbells and Penmans.

In conclusion.

I'm Aeryn - Penman Campbell - Stuart Harris (harrison) - Mcswan Ruthven.
And i'm a badd *** mushroom cloud layin German/Scot.
*passes out*

My mother's maiden (and my middle) name is Fortune. According to my grandfather, we branched off from the Armstrong clan quite some time ago.

I'm not sure about my Irish roots. I just know that the names are Bailey, Callaghan, and Clarke.

Wow, cool, same. Let's join forces and beat up some Campbells!

Bizarre...

It amazes me to see how aware some of you are about who your ancestors were.

I know tons of people, but I've never actually met anyone who knew who his ancestors were or where they lived. I don't even know who the parents of my grandparents were, heck I don't even know what city they came from or where they were born.

French blood? German blood? I have no idea and frankly, I couldn't care less.

Cogito ergo sum. :p

People over here have generally no idea from whom they descended or what country they came from.

I guess it's different with Scottish/Irish because of the clans...

I'm half Irish and half German(as are my parents). I'm not sure if Irish had the same clan system as Scotland, and I'm don't think Germany did either. All I know is drinking and getting into fights is in my blood.

I come from a family in Germany mainly (Last name is Rauhoff), which is on the boarder to France. I had my family in Germany and my grandfather here (both Rauhoff's) fight on opposing sides.

Somewhere along in my family, a Bodhran came into it, and everyone we known since has played it. It's an Irish instrument, but we can't find the Irish tree.

Well, I'm English. No clans for me.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Though really I'm only a quarter Irish... + 1/4 German, 1/4 English, 1/8 Dutch and 1/8 Lakota. The Irish gave me my name and was the latest to imigrate to this country (in the 20s, notably later than the Lakota :p).

I'm somehow spared that Simpsons episode nickname most of the time, though my dad was called that even back in the 60s. Some of my sister's friends call her El Grime-o, so... yeah, the O Gormghaile name is ever moe fragmented. The only "famous" Grimes I can think of was a voiceover actress for The Last Unicorn. :D

That's Scotch, Irish, Finnish, Generic-Indian-Tribe-We-Don't-Yet-Know, and possibly Moor because my grandfather's family is all dark.

-I'd post my crests... but I can't find any good pics of them, so... gosh.

Anyone from the Clan McCloud? Or McGyver?
2006-05-07, 8:55 AM #37
I'm Irish descending from the clan of Bloscaidh O'Catháin, slayer of Murtough O'Loughlin, heir to the throne of Ireland, in 1196. This made him important enough that people refered to themseves as sons of Bloscaidh instead of sons of Catháin (Cain).

McBloscaidh, pronounced McBloskey, later became McCloskey.

I don't know the exact clan, but I managed to find a lengthy family history, starting with my last name (Bond). I really should read it again, to find the clan name, but I do remember that I'm descended from vikings as well. Thought that was kinda cool.

Cool, man, Lakota? I've always thought the Lakota were the most fascinating tribe, and, to be honest, I've always wished that my father's tribe was in fact Lakota (we dunno what it is).

-Lakota or Apache. Most likely, though, he's just Muckleshoot or some local tribe (Washington).
