I wouldn't be so sure. Obviously everyone is different, but in my experience, girls really do masturbate alot less. I know the common perception is that women are more embarassed to talk about it, but in close circles of female friends, we really do talk about everything. Of my close girlfriends, I know only one girl who masturbates regularly, and one or two others who do it occassionally. I think the main reason is just that masturbation is, for everyone, a means to an ends. The only reason you do it is to orgasm, and most girls have trouble with that, even doing it themselves. Also, I think women experience sexual acts in a much more emotional way than men (generally speaking, obviously), and therefore doing something simply to pleasure yourself is a bit pointless. I know that personally, I just can't get into it on my own, I need another person to be involved, otherwise I just lose interest!

Just realised I didn't answer the initial question. No, I don't think it's wrong, and from what I can gather (mainly from talking to my ex), most guys view it as a way to ease tension, so it's almost dangerous not to.

Both are very valid points. There are women who don't know their body well enough to successfully orgasm. Another factor is that women, generally, sexually mature at a later age, early to mid thirties, than men do.

I don't personally think it is wrong. The LDS Church (my 'former' faith) vehemently opposes it. I mean, hardcore opposed (no pun intended).
