HELP! (or: How kyle90 just learned that he screwed up his life)

So as some of you may know, I'm going through university to hopefully one day become an aerospace engineer. Well, finals were done two weeks ago, and the marks were just posted today. It seems that, due to skipping of more than a few classes, and missing a lot of assigned work, that I have managed to fail 4 (count 'em, FOUR) of my courses.

Jesus Christ. I am so royally ****ed.

I haven't yet looked into what my options would be, but I doubt there'd be many. I failed one course last semester and I'm signed up to retake it in the summer (not that that's really necessary now), but with four more the only thing to do would be to stay back a year (if that's even possible). Or transfer into another program (I'm thinking maybe mechanical engineering).

I'm seriously scared, guys. Help.

With College here in the states, you can always retake any of your courses. So staying another semester wouldn't be too hard. But it takes the $$$ to pay for the courses ALL OVER AGAIN. :(

I think Kyle goes to University of Toronto...rules for marks are tough. You can get kicked out for poor marks in university.

Anyhow, I'd suggest quitting the internet/video games way.

lmao, I'm in far worse shape than you (if it's any consolation). I'm getting kicked out in a few days because apparently some people at my school are biased against students with GPAs that start with a 1. I'm just waiting for the wonderful letter in the mail. ;)

At IIT, if you GPA drops below a certain level you get one semester of "Academic Probation" to pick it back up before your scholarships are revoked and your admittance to the school becomes questionable (And if your ROTC on top of it, your are ROYALLY F***** because you might be liable for back tuition owed to the government.)

If you become unemployed, become a painter. Most of them get paid about £90,000 a year, or in dollars about $150,000 I guess. You need to get a good business but it's easy money and it needs done.

Don't worry about it too much, you can usually re-take a course. Quit the games, they take up too much time.

You can skip lectures and classes all you want, but you can't afford to skip assignments. For a start, they don't take long, are pretty easy and are usually enough to boost your average to a pass even if you royally mess up all your exams.

Gotta sympathise kyle, I'm doing mechanical engineering (aerospace is considered a specialisation you take in your 3rd and 4th years of mech eng at my uni), so I'm studying pretty much the same stuff. I've long considered it to have been a bit of a mistake. I'm currently trying to see if I have any chance of transferring into civil engineering if I can. Good luck whatever you do.

Yeah, U of T are pretty much nazis about grades. Everything I've heard about doing bad/failing courses is "you're screwed".

But hey, at least you have your marks. I'm stressed as hell about 3 really weak exams I wrote, probably failing first year calc. I just dropped a ****load of money to pay for summer courses, and my lectures start next week. The worst part? I still haven't seen my final grades for the regular year yet. What the **** is that? How am I supposed to know what I need to pick up in the summer, or even if it's worth continuing my studies

Don't worry about staying on an extra year. No shame in it. The important thing to do right now is to find out what you did wrong this semester, and not do that next semester (and the following semesters). Sign up for those courses that you failed for next semester - do it while the material's still fresh in your mind, because it'll make it easier to recall information that's three months old, as opposed to a year old.

At my univeristy there's a certain GPA which if you drop below you go on probation. There's another GPA level that results in automatic suspension for year. If you get suspended a second time, it's final (aka explusion).

My rule for skipping: Don't skip unless the professor makes powerpoint slides, uploads them onto the net and reads his lectures directly from them.

My rule for doing assignments: Do them all. Period.

All you can do right now is attempt some form of damage control. Condolences man; well, maybe this will scare you into better studying habits.

What he said.

You failed FOUR classes? Ohh your GPA is gonna tank. If you do get AP, you usually won't be kicked out but you have one semester to "clean up your act" so to say. It depends on school. Some are stringent that if you drop below 2.00, you get the boot.

I don't skip classes a lot. Sure there are the ones I have skipped but that's usually because I have ***-tons of homework and one missing lecture in <class> won't hinder me.

Exactly. The only time I have ever skipped classes is when:

A. I know I can make it up.
B. There's not something insanely important being taught that day.
C. I have something else productive I could be doing.

I think that it is a necessity for you to retake those courses. Whether or not you switch to mechanical engineering, you still need to bring your GPA back up. I would just suck it up and try to do what you need to do. You better start attending classes as well; you will have a much better chance of passing if you went once in a while.

You get absolutely no sympathy from me. If you are "so royally f*****," it's your own fault for skipping the classes (apparently on a regular basis) and for not completing the assigned work. Clean up your act, or things like this are going to happen to you for the rest of your life.

In short: Quit complaining because you're too lazy to earn decent grades.

God, I hate that. Everything this year didn't start until at least nine except for English. It sucks - you just end up feeling ****ty for the rest of the day.

I always feel like I'm getting ripped off if I do that. Like, I didn't pay thousands of dollars to print some stuff off of the internet. Going to class is getting my money's worth.
