Do you still watch cartoons?
2006-05-20, 5:54 PM #41
Modern kids cartoons aren't any dumber than ours were; we're just smarter. It's like watching scooby doo. That show is SO FREAKISHLY DUMB. But the nostalgia is overwhelming!

I watch whatever happens to be on Cartoon Network at the time, usually. Like Scooby Doo mid-days (They run the 1-hour 'celebrity' episodes A LOT.) random bad anime evenings (zach bell, naruto, other crap) and, gasp, I actually know the general synopsis of the show Totally Spies. Occasionally CN spits out a real gem like Bobobo or CN:KK. But Fox still manages to take my sunday nights. All those OTHER shows... I used to watch space ghost, but then I got a job, and suddenly had to GET UP IN THE MORNING!

Nickelodeon used to be good. But. Bleh. The only good show left over there is Fairly Odd Parents.

(CN:KK = Chuck Norris : Karate Kamandos)
Wikissassi sucks.

Ohhh; I know Zim and R&S are on DVD. Is Rocko? I want to see the snausage episode again... or the one where Rocky meets hefer's family. Or when sheldon has to spawn! Or when hefer thinks sheldon is an alien! Or rocko's highschool bully! And the BIGHEADS! The FLIES. The MUSICAL MONTAGE. The MOVIE THEATER and the garbage men on strike! Rocko's naked video. Spunky's flees. Are there any BAD episodes of Rocko?

I just want a looping GIF of Spunky drinking all of his water bowl, then drooling it back in again.

What? I love Scooby Doo! (Only the old ones, though. None of this Scrappy Doo crap)

I watch the Adult Swim type "mature" shows (sans South Park), but if Animaniacs or the X-Men cartoon were still going I would watch those.

I watch the Simpsons, Family Guy, and King of the Hill. I also watch a lot of anime.

Interesting topic. I do indeed still watch cartoons on occasion. Why, I just watched some Sonic the Hedgehog with my sister yesterday morning. Oh, the nostaliga. As for newer shows, I'd probably be watching Adult swim nightly... but I seem to have abandoned it now in favour of reading at the coffeeshop. A lot of shows appeal to me for various reasons, and some just rub me the wrong way- it's a bit hard to explain, because I don't always fully understand what it is about shows that causes me to enjoy them or not. Back in the day, I was a tremendous fan of MASK, Silverhawks, Thundercats, and TaleSpin. Likewise with Duck Tales, Looney Tunes, and Rocky & Bullwinkle, all of which I still enjoy today. The first three don't seem to make any sense anymore whenever I watch them. (Although I do find it hilarious that Silverhawks was basically a cheap 40s police drama set in space.)

As for the maturity issue, I'd say that's always been a complicated issue. However, I'll agree that social maturity and mature tastes in entertainment are two very different things. Who says you have to have 'refined' tastes to be mature? Bah.

Yeah, I still watch cartoons at random. Might be because of my interests as an animator, might just be that I'm a kid at heart.

Does anyone realize how much innuendo there was in Rocko's Modern Life? I must have been a stupid kid or I just don't remember it.

Or maybe I'm stupid now for trusting a Wikipedia article.

that may be why the show is not shown anymore. because of the stupid FCC thiking that kids that arn't old ennough to understand what the enuendo means understand it and will be traumatised by it. When realy, if the kids understand it, they are not going to be affected by it.

Also, in RML, even though the guy that voices rocko is an american, any australian that has been to america can attest that when you go to america, even for a holiday, you will get an american accent within a week. (except for the people with the far north queensland accent, the steve erwin accent.)

Yeah, I'm gonna go with no on that. Old shows were more clever, shows now are just moronic. Examples: Ed, Edd n' Eddie; Spongebob; etc.

Spongebob is half dumb and half clever from what I've watched. It's made by one of the main writers from Rocko's Modern Life so I can't imagine it's much more inane than that show.

What do you mean.... Ed Edd & Eddie is awesome. One word: PLANK. You know plank's dad is stump from angry beavers, right?

My wife watches "Kim Possible" religiously while I'm at work on Saturdays. I watch it with her when I'm home.

Simpsons, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Fillmore, Fairly Odd Parents, and the Weekenders.

The occasional Spongebob as well. :o
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, Rugrats... Not that I watch any tv at all regularly.

Oh, and I watch Kim Possible and similar when I'm babysitting my neice and nephew. But stuff like spongebob I won't let them watch because the sheer stupidity of it hurts my brain.

My wife currently watches "The Avatar" and has been wanting the DVD's as they come out. My stipulations? I've now got all 4 volumes of Batman: The Animated Series and am currently trying to get the Batman Beyond DVDs.
