I don't care if you use TEH GIMP or Photoshop, I use Paint Shop Pro and I love it. The only problem is I want to use PSP 9 again, because PSP X is a memory whore and Corel messed with some nice features big time. It's a shame JASC sold PSP to Corel. Anyway, who knows where I can find the PSP 9 trial? Since JASC fell off of planet earth, I can't find any trial but X.

How abouts a good P2P program? I mean, really if all your looking for is a trial, I fail to see how using it would be a BAD thing.

I agree with you, SAJN, PSP has some awesome features. I especially like how it converts colormaps in comparison with Photoshop. I think in general, though, it's best to have both sitting around.

8 and 9 were my too fav versions. If you can convince someone who lives in the UK to help you out, you can still get it there in Game (oddly enough). As for 10, I always have and always will say that PSP went down the drain when Corel [shudders] took control of it.

I've always liked Photoshop much better really.

At least it actually improves with newer versions. :p

I still use PSP 7.0. That's because I never bothered to upgrade it.

Dudes, it's like this:

Paintshop: The name says it all; Paint. If you have a Wacom, this program is the way to go.

Photoshop: Again, it's in the name; Photo. Use this beast to edit photos, add effects, or otherwise manipulate images.

2006-05-22, 6:33 PM #17
Let's compare:

Photoshop CS2: $578.99

Paintshop Pro X: $97.99

For those of us who don't wallow in cash or dismiss copyright infringement, that's a significant point.

I'd actually prefer a demo of PS over a full version of PSP.

But that's just me.

oh yeah well paint is the best program ever its better than them all blah blah blah blah..

I haven't tried PSPX yet, but 9 is working great.. my favorite of them all is 7 but my verison of it always screws up.. even after a harddrive format I get very strange errors.

You're wrong. GIMP does not suck! Its awesome for what it is. A freeware photoediting utility that has countless plugins and various uses. Its very useful for me. I use it on a daily basis almost.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Actually, no. For digital painting, Painter is a much more powerful and convenient package than Paintshop Pro. However, you'll notice that a lot of (professional) artists will go for Photoshop for painting, even when some use Painter to lay down the basics. WHy? It's simple: Not only is Photoshop the industry standard, it's also amazingly powerful once you know what you can do with it. That's what makes Photoshop such an awefully great tool: The versatility.

No, see it's Paint and irfanview combined. That's where it's at

I draw my bitmaps in Paint, and then use irfanview to save it as a jpeg. :p

Or for people who get it through college for like 30 bucks. Yeah. Some colleges don't suck in that respect.

Eh, no. Photoshop will work with more than one mouse button. My 5-button mouse works just fine, with every button having a different, useful function.

Haha... I guess my photoshop copy has gotten outdated... nevertheless.. I hate Adobe programs, seriously.

Also, ever wondered why a stupid viewer/reader program needs to be a 20 meg download? I think it's ridiculous.

InDesign is glorious for text formatting (and ill admit i didnt like it at first)

A. That's only one program.
B. Because its not just a "stupid viewer/reader program", it has to support all the crazy stuff that PDF docs can do. Like tables, graphics, vectors, etc. Believe it or not, but Acrobat can actually open and view a TON of stuff, including AI files, PSD files, etc.

Uh. Care to back that up? Because I've yet to see a $30 price sticker on Photoshop. All the prices I've seen go from $250-$300.

My friend obtained the Adobe Suite for like 150 dollars through his college. He's in graphic design.

College discounts are between $250-300, universally. Maybe he bought an older version for cheaper then.
