Yeah, I'd have to say after reading the original Weapon X (not Cerasini's raping of Logan's background...) about four years ago, Marvel tends to be pretty watered down when it comes to comics, but when I borrowed Sin City: That Yellow ******* from a friend about a year after that, I started enjoying comics again.

my point is that marvel has had that formula for pretty much every comic they've had, for many a year.

i find the majority of the comics to be rather bland.

not to say the comic adaptions are bad, i've enjoyed all the ones i've seen.

practically every action/drama story out there follows the same formula, though. like I said, you could take any story in the world and still be able to break it down like that.

a crude analogy, but it's like looking at the mona lisa and saying "paint? check. canvas? check. art is stagnant because it all follows the same formula." it's not a fair analysis.

I mean, you can like and dislike anything you want. to each his own, and all that. I'm just saying that I disagree that just because it can be broken down into a very general formula means that it's unoriginal/bland/stagnant.
Moo.
2006-05-25, 11:31 AM #44
yes but it was just an example, and i'm not claiming every comic is like that, i'm saying marvel is, all of their stories and characters have been the same for years and years, they pretty much all follow an identical template, just with different art.

i do enjoy quite a few comics, but marvel ones just seem to be more like a production line than a comic.

That's a generational thing more than anything else. They start the stories they have over again so a new generation can start from the begining. Also, fans don;t really want a lot of change. They want the X-men story to be the X-men story.

well I've just seen it and personally it was pretty good, I'm not very good at giving reviews although I will say this...and I can't believe it was actually in the movie...

Vinnie Jones: Do you know who I am? I'm the juggernaut b***h man did I laugh when that was said.

Other than that, phoenix was portrayed very well, effects and powers included, wolverine was his normal self, although his rate of healing seems to speed up with each movie :p

Also, playing chess at the end....is this really the last stand?

I'm seeing it tonight at midnight too! I'm excited, but the lack of Nightcrawler saddens me.

heh, saw the first, not the second, but I just saw the third, and I have to say, I'm a fan. Granted this is from the casual movie watcher's standpoint; I never read the cmoic books or anything. But still, I'd definitely have to say it's worth seeing.

Well I just got back from my midnight showing. Thought I wasn't going to go until the day after but as it turns out the offer came up to see it tonight. First off, I found it to surpass what I thought it was going to be. Being skeptical of Ratner, I went into this movie expecting the worst. In fact, that primary reason I wanted to see the movie was only for the first ten minutes or so to see these aging effects that have been raved about so much - Ratner's effects team did not disappoint me on this point - they were superb.

As for the movie itself, I felt there could have been a lot more room for a story. I felt like I was watching the X-Men cartoon while watching the movie where most of it was action and plot remenants were thrown in here and there just to keep things moving in a direction to lead to more action. Something done very well, I thought, was the Phoenix. There was a great darkness but slight beauty to the Dark Phoenix. Ratner certainly did not understate her powers.

As for spoilers... I did not care much for Scott's death, but did find myself feeling more for what happened to Mystique. One who believed in Magneto's cause so much to risk her life for him then be totally stabbed in the back really hit me. I did think that adding her back into the movie later on was a bit much though. Then there's the big death - Xavier. Never have I seen a death in theatres make an audience so quiet for so long. Especially in an audience of comic fans and screaming teens. The hardest part to hit me was when the skin around Xavier's knuckles started to fade away, because the began the end for him. But stay after the credits at this movie for a nice treat. Xavier pulls a Spock.

Edit: Oh yeah, boo to love triangles.

Also, the most unfortunate part of this movie was the previews. Not because they were terrible - they were fantastic. In fact, I wanted to leave the theatre and see the movies I saw previews for instead. A brand new preview for Pirates of the Caribbean and a brand new preview for Superman Returns. I loved the PotC one for the effects, that's going to be a fun movie to watch. I loved the new Superman Returns one because it finally exposed a little bit of the drama that will be in it - and once again, gotta love Spacey.

Okay, I enjoyed that movie quite a bit. Even though it was more action, it was good and sexy action.

And the final part, with Magneto being able to get the chess thing move a bit.. mmm

I guess I'd give it 7.5/10 or 8/10

Well yeah, the X-Men movies are cool, and quite succesful as comic book adaptations, but to say that they're some of the best movies ever made?

*hilarious cackle*

You can't really debate tastes, but come on.... I can think of countless movies better than X-Men. (And most of them will probably be relatively 'unknown' movies.) X-Men is very entertaining, but it is just a stupid superheroes story. (Note: this coming from a Marvel fan)

Went to the midnight premiere. I thought it was a quality movie, but I loved the first two. If you hated the first two, I don't think this one will change your mind. However, it's cool to have seen the story progress from the first one; In the first ones, it was just a few mutants fighting, now it's total war. I loved the Juggernaut quote (completely surprised me).

Be sure to stay after the credits!

No, you can't debate tastes, yet you try anyways. How amusing.

I think they're easily the best action movies I've ever seen, and definitely up there in the best movies I've ever seen.

nah thats a joke.

"Let off some steam, Bennett" is one of Arnies more epic one liners, blissfully stated at the climax of Commando.

Why do you make everything so personally, Yoshi? You take what would have been a normal conversation about some movie and then tack "No, you can't debate tastes, yet you try anyways. How amusing," on your reply.

Like, why? I don't understand. There were so many different, *nicer* ways you could have put that, but instead you flip into full defensive mode and start with the flaming.

What is your deal?

I don't take everything personally, nor am I defensive. I just think landfish is an idiot, not to mention he constantly comes after everything I say because he hates me (and I don't have the slightest idea why he started hating me, thus the idiot moniker). And it's not the first time ORJ has done something like that.
