The Bill, H.R. 5319, also known as the 'Deleting Online Predators Act of 2006', is still in its infancy, but in its current form, would forbid libraries from allowing access to such sites as well." This is like banning halloween because there might be razors in the candy.

Since that has never happened.

The only difference here is that it actually has happened. like, four times.

I think it's important to note that this would ban access in public schools and libraries. Most schools probably block access already. I doubt this'll change much, since the cases I've heard of all concerned kids who had home computers.

It's uncommon, yes, but to say it "rarely ever happens" is like saying that people "rarely ever" get into car accidents. It's not common, but it definitely happens a lot. Often enough for it to be a big deal.

Not that I support this in the least; they should crack down on internet predators themselves, not the victims, as others have already noted.

Yeah, but does predator include the jock at their high school who wants some pussy? Those studies are almost always bull**** because they ask the question "Have you ever received a sexual comment on Myspace?" (almost everyone) and turn it into 'sexually agressive'.

Also, no offense to other 13 year olds, but if you go somewhere where internet predators are abundant and don't know enough to realize what's going on, you're an idiot. I'm not going to hook up with some 29 year old guy who can't get any from even the fattest of women because I'm NOT THAT STUPID.

See, here's an elementary flaw in the internet--you may meet someone "who lives in your town" who is "your age", and is actually 30 years old and a sexual predator. He could be on these boards. He could be anyone. You never know.

You can't protect yourselves as well as you think against these kinds of things.

I doubt this bill will pass. I really don't see how it could be enforced anyway and if I'm not mistaken, a school shooting was averted because the plotters used myspace to post their plan, those allowing some students who were visitors of myspace to prevent the event from occuring. If it weren't for myspace (as well as student teenagers with no brains to post something like that on the internet), that event might had happened.

Yes it was. You were comparing the razorblade incidents to the child predator incidents, or something like that. Thus making it part of your argument. Now cite a source on your bull****.

Which is why I don't give out addresses to anyone, unless they're sending me something, IE: Phoenix sending me some software. No one else knows where I live, and I think I'd know if he were my age or not, because I know a great deal of the kids in public school and have some friends who could clarify for me.

Or you could find a source. Oh wait, genki already did that for you.

90. Not 400. 90 incidents reported.

And I could be wrong, but Spook was saying the Razorblades incidents actually has happened, like 4 times.

You don't need to give out your address for people to get it. Ever ordered something online? Ever had a forum account you put your state on? Your city? From there they can take your last name, and do a search. That'll probably yield between 10 and 100 results. Then it's all a matter of paying attention to your posts, and if you post any pictures trying to find out where that is.

It takes effort, but it's not hard at all to find out where someone lives on the internet if you look hard enough. And there are people that will.

Meaning no one has put razorblades in candy.

To which I replied that there have been a lot more incidents with internet predators than four.
