Bags of milk
2006-06-10, 11:37 PM #1
Someone made a comment in #massassi, and I'm not sure if it was sarcastic or not. However, it made me realize that perhaps an assumption that I've made all my life is false. State your country, and whether you can buy milk in 1 1/3 litre bags.

I think Americans mainly buy cartons well in Canada we have this invention called "a plastic bag."

This thread's title bluffed me for a second o_o

But anyhow, we have cartons and they have cows:

Yeah, in Canada (at least, in my city) plastic bags are probably the most common. You buy 4 litres at a time, which comes in three 1 1/3 litre plastic bags. Next most common is the plastic jugs (I think they're 4 litre), then cartons.

You use a container like these:

And cut both of the top corners off the bag (one to pour, the other to let air out).

Both. This far north, you can get both at the whole foods places. We don't shop at the major branches, so we see both. We still get cartons [Actually, we get milk jugs] but I have had bags before. My grade school used only bags. They're easy when you've grown up with them.

Yeah, that's what our 4 litre jugs are like.

Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

To be more specific, it was I who made the comment about the bags of milk, after reading this SA thread: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1894352&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

I still think that bags are silly and overly difficult. Plastic jugs are prefection. ;)

I don't think private citizens really find milk in bags anywhere over here. It might be used in some dispensers in large units. Cartons are the only things you find here, which is not surprising considering Sweden is our neighbour, and it's from there the carton packing millionaires originated...

Yea I also enjoy a fine looking black pussy... cat

Anyway I worked at a convenience store in Wisconsin that sold 1/2 gallon bags of milk. But if one of them got punctured... pain in the friggin *** to clean up.

Milk here comes in gallon jugs, or cartons that are less than a gallon. The only milk that comes in bags in 5 gallon bags for resaurant style dispensers.

I've never seen milk in bags in my entire life, and the whole concept is strange and scary to me.

For most people, the first time they ever drank milk was from a bag... a nice round supple fleshy bag.

You can only get them in tetrapak here (Sweden).

I'd never even heard of the concept before I started working in a fish and chip shop and we had a dispenser out the back. That was refilled with bags, bloody pain in the arse. We have the technology to make durable, recyclable, solid plastic containers, why the hell would we do anything else?

99.9% of commercially sold milk in Asda in Britland is in plastic bottles.

We have cartons and plastic jugs. Jugs for most things, although a few odd types come in cartons.

Either way, they are all superior to bags. Bleh.

We have bags. Less waste, resuable container, and easier to pour.

The bag thing seems inefficient and harder to manage for me.

I've never seen a bag of milk in my life... storing a liquid in a bag seems rather odd to me.

When we stopped in your home town last year Kirb, they were selling them in bags at this one grocery store.

I am allergic to milk protein and it makes my skin freak out. So I drink soymilk. But it comes in a carton. I save milk for milkshakes, cheese, etc. so I can have special treats. :( I wish I could drink more milk.

You don't have to do that. I've NEVER done then and the milk always pours in a nice thick stream of cow pee goodness.
