Wait, I proved your point by saying exactly what you're saying? What?

I don't like when people think I'm personally attacking them by disliking their game. YOU'RE the one making what I'm saying into a condiscending "I'm better for my opinion" thing. I simply said why I didn't like the game, and how I didn't get the same experience out of it that everyone else did.

But hey, you're right, I'm calling you names and telling you that liking half life 2 makes you a fat ******* without a life or a girlfriend.

I thought HL2 was ok, but I'm more of a fan towards doom 3, painkiller, and F.E.A.R. when it comes to the more modern FPS games.


Deus Ex still tops the list, however.

I certainly hope I wasn't one of those people because I semi-agreed with you but also stated that I liked. The only thing I pointed out is that FarCry although a very good game can have its bad points, such as the super AI.

Running through the game twice on the hardest difficulty, I enjoyed HL2. It was a relaxing (cruising in a vehicle just seems so calm) adventure with pretty maps and models and a lot of fun times. Physics puzzles were clever and gave the game some variety. However, there were several problems:

1. AI. Enemies were only difficult to counter in large numbers. They used little strategy, if any, beyond the AI standards at the time of release. The resistance fighters were stupid enough to run out and attack striders with SMGs. More examples of this annoyance abound.

2. Weapons. Specifically, the SMG. Not that HL1's MP5 was better . . . .

3. Story. It seemed to be a lot less than that of HL1. Basically, you pop in and out of City 17, getting distracted along the way. Then again, FPS's these days lack a decent story, which just amounts to giving you a reason to shoot stuff.

Yes. HL2 is a linear waste of time in comparison. If only Deus Ex had been made a few years later, it could have been given a well deserved polish with newer technology.

As I said, I could care less wether or not you like the game. Yoshi doesn't seem to like HL2, but am I arguing with him? No. We disagreed on a matter of personal taste concerning the weapons in the game, but there was no real argument, because for the most part we both respect eachother's opinions. You, however, are acting superior and condescending just because people like a game that you don't, and that's what I have a problem with.

You didn't quote anything from my original block of text that you originally claimed I was being elitistic and condiscending. I never claimed that you were elitist, and I didn't call you condescending until you were. Read which order our posts are in.

My complaint was with the attitude of your criticism.

Note that when you say "I think this game sucks," it's a personal statement conveying that you did not enjoy the game. That's fine, and I'm not arguing with that.

However, when you say "This game sucks," it is a factual statement, not a personal one, and it is not conveying it as a matter of personal preference but a matter of fact. Thus, people who think differently tend to be offended, as you are essentially saying that they are wrong for thinking the way they do.

And before you call me irrational or a fanboy, let me point out that if you insult anyone's tastes, they'll generally be offended. Go to a music forum and tell everyone that the music they listen to sucks. They'll be offended, because you're insulting their taste. Again, just because your opinion is different doesn't give you the right to disrespect the opinions of others.

It is common courtesy to treat other people's tastes with respect, wether or not you agree with them. When you don't, they get pissed off. Stop acting like you're innocent of that, when quite frankly, you started it.

Correct, you don't always have to specify, but it's common courtesy. Especially when you're insulting something that other people like, it's respectful to make it clear that it's just a matter of taste. And when you don't respect people or their opinions, sometimes they get pissed off. Surprising, isn't it? (Note: that was sarcasm.)

As I said, this type of behavior is hardly unique to gamers. Go to any fanbase and tell them that their tastes suck, and they'll be offended. It's arrogant and condescending to treat someone as if their tastes are inferior to yours, and wether or not that is your intention, that's the way you've been conducting yourself. Stop acting like my offense is unjustified, because if it is, then I guess that means you're the only justified person on the planet.

Please stop shining valve's 1999 level design, gameplay, and AI in it's 2005 graphics shell. There are many games made BEFORE and after HL2 that do what it's trying to do a thousand times better.

I'm sure you've heard me say this before, but I have to say it again: Farcry.

You're not reading what I'm saying.

I'm not offended by your opinion. I'm offended by the attitude with which you express your opinion. You're doing it in a very arrogant, insulting manner, and being disrespectful of other's tastes.

And this has nothing to do with the game in question. If I were just pissed because you didn't like it, I'd be arguing with all the other people who expressed similar views in this thread. But I'm not. I'm arguing with you, because you're the one with the attitude. Put simply, your opinion doesn't offend me; you do.

Why'd you get upset with my initial post, and start *****ing in the first place? You claim I was being disrespectful or whatever, but you've yet to tell me why my initial post made you so annoying so suddenly. The only time I became "disrespectful" is when you claimed I was being condiscending. You said that after my first post. My first post lacks anything you're talking about whatsoever. But then you state that I'm attacking people's opinions when you're doing just that. Attacking my opinion because I dissed a game you adore by countering several things that people liked about the game. You've YET to show that you were anything more than displeased with the way I dislike your game. All of the "you're being mean!" quotes you've made are my response to your attacking me.
