Methinks Prey just got blown out of the water

I used to play a couple of Escher styled maps on Unreal Tournament that featured similar portals except weapon use was the main feature (eg sending rockest round corners). This game utilises an engine that allows you to place portals as you please and uses a physics engine to make an interesting puzzle game. The technology isn't entirely new but the style of gameplay would appear to be.

I never played the HL expansions. Are they worth it?

YES

Oposing force is like 10x better than the original, blueshift is on par with the original (Albeit alot shorter)

I don't give a rats *** about what anyone said in this thread. This game looks awesome.

 Finally! Something to change my mind about everything on the HL2 engine sucking!

[Although bollocks considering I have to buy 2 other things with it.]
nope.

That Portal vid looked pretty fun. Interesting way of thinking of things, although I imagine portals have been implemented in other games in other ways.

As far as Prey, why do people have the impression that it is going to be great? It looks like a Doom 3 clone.

You've obviously not played Prey. It's not really at all like Doom 3, despite the visuals.

And to be honest, it looks a LOT better than Doom 3.

it looks really friggin awesome, I downloaded that other game that everyone said they got the idea from, and if Portal is half as fun as that game it'll be pretty cool.

The only thing is... it looks like a half-life 2 mod then a new game... anyone notice the same sounds for the turret firing and when it's knocked over, the portal gun looks like a newer sleeker gravity gun... sure it's being developed by the same people, but can't they make new sounds and new designs then use their old ones?

"Going to be"? It's out, and it is great.

It uses the Doom 3 engine very well, and the dynamic lighting isn't *ever* used as a gimmick. The gameplay revolves around dynamic gravity and portals. The game is very very very fun.

What happens if you overlap the two portals?

I guess Valve already figured that out.

To whoever was asking: Opposing Force is, in my opinion, the best out of the three (HL, OF and BS). Blue Shift is rather boring and short. The only real reason they made it was so that they could distribute the high-definition pack, which you can just download these days.

Personally I want to know if youd be able to shoot yourself through it. Damn it's apparent lack of guns.

I also want to see if the Portals work if put on a moving surface; ie. If you stuck one on the bottom of that descending spiky thingy in the first demonstration and stood under it, would that work?
nope.

in the Prey demo you can kill yourself by shooting through a portal.

From the clip, it looked like it only worked on architecture, not objects.

That was pretty freakin' amazing, by the way.
