Below is a few posts the way I'd like the thread to remain. Notice the lack of debate, please keep it this way. Thanks.

As for me, I saw this film today and it was good. This film entertained me, it was funny when it needed to be but serious for the most part. This film was very well made, more so then Bowling for Columbine in my opinion. So, has anyone else seen this film? I reccomend you all do.

off topic: *smacks the admins* This is why we need polls. Someone can post a question like "What did you think of Fahrenheit 9/11?" and have answers like "I loved it" "I hated it" "I'm not going to see it" and "Haven't seen it but plan to". That way SAJN can get his results without making 3 threads about it while the rest of us bicker. Everyone wins. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

On topic: I would LOVE to see this movie, but unfortunately it's not being released in my area for some reason. Apparantly we have some really conservative theater owners.

Off topic: Really, why did you even waste your time creating this thread? It's going to turn into a meaningless debate, and it's going to piss the admins off that you made another one, after they closed your second one. Few people here can handle the complexities required by this thread. I.e. Not telling someone else they are an idiot, and just stating your opinion without telling someone else they are a dick for their's.

On a side note, stop trying.

On topic: I'm so-so on the movie. If it was on TV or something I would probably watch it, but I'm not going to goto the theaters and pay money to see it. It doesn't interest me THAT much.

Off topic: Why is this even so important for you, SAJN, to start 3 threads on this one issue? Is it really that big of a deal to you? What is even the point of discussing a movie if you can't debate why you do or do not like it - or counter other people?

To me - a meaningless thread would be people just stating if they like or did not like a movie. To make the thread interesting you need the debate to get both sides of reasons why people do and do not like it.

I don't know. To each his own - but this is getting pretty flipping stupid having 3 posts with the same titles just because they turn into debates.

Debate is good for the following reasons:

1) encourages critical thinking. You have to look deep into the warrants behind claims to effectively debate them, forcing you to learn the WHY of issues instead of just the WHAT.

2) More educational. It's most educational when both sides of an issue are presented and forces you to learn more about your side.

3) More fun. One sided discussions are boring, especially when discussing a controversial issue.

4) Provides a voice for the oppressed. Your discursive rejection of debate is the same mindset that justifies ignoring the oppressed minority. All you want is to hear YOUR side. If you let this idea of one sidedness work here, then it justifies one sided discussions in other areas such as civil rights.

5) Stop whining.

Seems that everyone who has seen it has enjoyed it. F9/11 was such a good film because this time Moore's evidence was just so concrete.

On topic: I'm not going to pay to see this in a theater. I generally don't go watch too many comedies.

Off topic: Why does anyone feel the need to keep starting threads on this topic? It's like saying "Non-debate thread: Who are you going to vote for" or "Non-debate thread: Is God real?". It's silly to bring up a controversial subject and not expect a debate.

Moore has no concrete evidence. I have facts to back it up. He has taken many of his movie incidents out of context. The guy has shown himself incompetent in directly answering a question on live television. He is just another bash America because Bush has ruined it. He just kind of goes "well it isn't Bush" when he is reminded that Kerry backs many of the same ideas as Bush. Bush could have done this blah blah blah. He thinks he can predict the future.

I don't like the movie, but I will go see it when I can see it for free. I've already seen much of the movie for free in segments on news reports etc. Debate.
2004-06-27, 7:04 AM #24
Wait... hold on... am I reading correctly?

You haven't even SEEN the movie and you are saying that his evidence is not concrete? Excuse me while I go laugh in a dark corner for 8 hours.

In the whole movie Moore does not mention Kerry even once. He doesn't even discuss any of Bush's policies/ideas/platforms except the ones that affect war and poverty. Why? Because it is a documentary on the negative impact of George Bush. Nothing else. I'd love to see someone refute all the points Moore makes in the movie, because I have no idea how they would pull it off.

No, you aren't reading correctly, because you obviously can't focus enough to read or write a coherent sentence.

Moore mentions his support for voting Kerry on talk shows. Such as with Connan O'Brien. War and poverty have a heck of a lot to do with Bush's policies.

As for refuting Moore, easy for most of the film. Easier to just show how all of it is taken out of context or skewed to the point of falsehood.

I won't voice my opinion on the debate between you two, I'll just address this allegation. I read his post (which you quoted) several times in hopes of finding the incoherent sentence(s). I found no such thing. Could you tell me where it is? Unless of course it's similar to an Iraqi WMD in that you say you have solid proof of its existence, you just can't find it anywhere.

2004-06-27, 7:31 AM #27
Are we discussing the movie or Michael Moore? I think the topic is Fahrenheit 9/11, not Michael Moore on "Conan O'Brien", or Fox News. I don't watch that garbage television anyways, so I wouldn't know his position on the vote.

You still haven't answered my first question. Why are you refuting the film if you haven't seen it?

I would change my mind regarding the accuracy/integrity of Moore's evidence, but not in your posts or any other articles I've scoured Google for have I found sufficient evidence to disprove Moore's claims in this recent film.

Time for lunch, and sorry SAJN for raping your third attempt. Maybe I'll start a new thread to carry this on.
