And by "Constrained to the Genie Rules", that means you get stuffed in a damn bottle and forced to live out your days as a slave. Even if you don't say "I wish I had Genie powers!" it just happens. That's how it works. Like, "I wish for $200!" would lead to your brother dying in an industrial accident and the company pays you $200.
"I wish I could alter reality at will!" You become a genie. Usually, the Genie then becomes you and takes over your life.
...
Conversely, you could be pulled into the bottle with the genie, and there's an interesting situation...
*whistles the "I Dream of Genie" theme*
Except you wouldn't be married to a genie living with you in suburbia, you would be in a bottle that was left on the table in your house, and then the bank would come and take your house, and put the bottle in a safe deposit box, then it would be auctioned off years later in a massive junk sale after the bank was shut down for insurance fraud, then you're placed on a mantle where someday years later a thief breaks in on Christmas eve and steals the bottle because his girlfriend is really into funny little decorative things like this, and she puts it in her special little collection, then years down the line, after the thief and her broke up and she got married and had kids, she dies and bequeaths all this junk to her youngest grandson who was the only one who ever understood her, and he's going through the junk and discovers this funny little oil lamp in with grandma's bobble-head chihuahuas and puts it in with his collection of rare metallic items and gems, and when he has his own children he shares them with his son, and realizes there's a lot of dust on all his items, and tells his son, "Well, they'd look real good if someone were to dust them," and then leaves the room ad his 12 year old son starts by polishing the gems and stuff, and then the rare knives, and arrowheads, and silly clockwork automatons, and gets to this disgusting, grease encrusted old brass bottle, and starts to polish it and then...
-... and then the plot of half the children's movies released in the nineties is played out.
