I guess after seeing how silly and or just plain ugly tattoos get when one is rather old kinda doesn't help my opinion; e.g.:

"Hey, why do you have a wet mongoose on your right thigh?"

"Well, that used to be a flaming unicorn, back in the 70's."

Also, would you trust a guy who has a flaming skull on his hand to perform surgery on you? How about a guy who has snakes around his neck be your lawyer in a lawsuit? If they are visible, it just doesn't look professional. And if it isn't visible, what's the point?

I understand that people have different takes on the whole thing, but the ideology behind it, and the rising prevalence of it, is something that I never quite understood. If there is a way of life you like to lead, or something you are proud of, or maybe someone you love, there are plenty of more tactful ways to announce your feelings. Then again, in a culture so crowded with various obnoxious signs and intrusive advertisements, I guess this is becoming the norm. You have basically make yourself a walking billboard to make your individuality known in the constant background noise of culture. I guess subtlety is becoming a lost art nowadays.

Yeah, I think you could have been a lot more subtle in showing your dislike for tattoos.

But seriously, it's nothing new. Bodypainting and tattooing are as old as humanity itself. Some people just think it's cool. It's like preferring a snake leather jacket over a tuxedo. It's just a matter of taste. Tattoos can also have meanings for people. They carry it on their body because it's a symbol of the way they live their lives. And if they're not visible, they're probably meant for those moments when you don't need clothes. ;)

I'd never take a tattoo myself, because there's nothing important enough for me to put it on my body. But I do appreciate looking at nice ones. I know this girl, she's got an entire arm covered. It's really hot. And she's a very intelligent individual, so it only makes her more interesting i.m.o.

The tattoo I want to have set in a few months should be easy to cover up with clothing, really, but there's another reason for it: There's plenty of people like our dear Lord_Kuat not liking tattoo's, which'd make it hard toget a job if you do have one.

Tattoos have never fascinated him.

Nor piercings.

I probably wouldn't ever get one, but if I was to it'd no doubt be the FOX-HOUND logo. Not the goofy cartoon fox, or the one with the knife in it's mouth, I mean the other one. It's an oval shape, with the fox arched inside it. That'd look pretty cool in black and white. You can tell why I wouldn't get a tattoo; the only thing I'd want doesn't really have much personal significance, I just think it's cool, so I doubt I'd put in the effort/money.

I'd definatly getting a tattoo once I've reached my goal with my diet and work out. So that should be in a year or so. I'll need to figure out what I want by them. Maybe "Myself" tattood over my heart. Or a skull on my right shoulder with "Cheating Whore" written its the forehead. I doubt any of my future girlfriends would dare cheat on me after that. >:p

If all else fails, I could have Kirby tattooed on my left nut, Geb on my right, and Martyn and Shintock written on either sides of my penis. With a smiley face on the head. Then I can spice things up with some herpies and warts. Ok now I'm turned on.

You know what would be really lame? If I got a crocodile tattoo. After all, crocodiles don't even have anything to do with krokodiles.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

True indeed, but in different cultures the same act has different relevance. Maori tattoos for example are a cultural aspect, and are different from me getting a spider on my arm.

The why behind an action always exists, just like the snake leather jacket. It's taste, that is a definite fact, but it also speaks about the person's character. If I were to wear my snake skin jacket to a formal meeting, what would that say? Again, it's my taste, but it speaks more than just one's choice of attire. Now what it says is different for every person, but in our western culture, where do tattoos fit in general?

I'm sure everyone can agree that there has been a growth in the popularity of tattoos as of late; at least within the last decade or so (in the USA at least). Why is that? Is it because we are becoming a more accepting culture, more willing to acknowledge different viewpoints such as diverse cultures, varying sexual orientations, and a plethora of creeds so we are more free to express ourselves in the way we see fit? Or on the flipside, maybe we're becoming loud, obnoxious, in your face, LOOK AT ME I'M XXXTREME AND HARDCORE!!! type culture of faux individuality? You know where I stand :psyduck:

I guess I'm just an 80 year old in a 20 year old's body.

Dang you kids, turn the music down!

Anyway, good posting.

I really think star signs are about the most uncreative things you can get tattooed on your body.

The anatomy of that skull and brain is waaaay wrong. Tattoos that ignore the basic rules of anatomy, proportions, and the like are one of my biggest pet peeves. Why can't tattoo artists learn how to do **** right before putting their crappy art on peoples' bodies?

>_<

Admittedly, the idea of getting a tattoo has appealed to me on a very light level, but not only am I not sure what I'd get, but if I did consider it, I'd be considering the test of time factor before doing so. In any case, any tattoo I'd get would likely be small and obscure.

More than likely though, I'll never get one.
