Fastest Mac Ever != Awesomest computer ever

Though it does look pretty good.

3ghz quad core 64-bit Quad Xeon is pretty extreme for a desktop pc if you ask me.

Haha. They claim it's unmatched in expansion: Except that you have to use all apple hardware, or suffer greatly trying to get the hardware to talk to eachother.

What the bloody hell are you talking about?

8 slots for RAM, and any brand will work. PCI-X cards, of which I know plenty (sound and video cards) that work just as easily on Mac and PC. Don't see why you'd have to buy "Apple" hardware.

I hate people who attack Apple because they have nothing better to do.

Honestly, they arent that bad.

For cheaper than your average producer. Much cheaper. And their Xeon/Core2 based solution is yet to be seen on any other architecture, iirc.

Yeah, it'd be hella extreme...if it was useful. At all. It's got a purpose, for sure, but only about 1% of users would ever see that purpose worth the cash.

I was checking that out earlier. I wish I was wealthy and had a reason to buy one. A whole rack of them like the one on that page would be nice. :)

All it needs is a sex-hole. But maybe you can replace the second optical drive with one.

Yeah, I guess it would be just small enough for you.

I hate people who think computers are all about specs.

If I had enough disposable income I would buy a top-of-the-range mac in a heartbeat even though I could get a higher spec PC for the same price.

Why?

Because Macs are a thing of beauty. Their very presence promotes a creative frame-of-mind.

You see, I have a theory. Linux encourages the programmer's mindset, Macs encourage the designer's mindset and Windows is somewhere in the middle. They are all technically very capable of being used for programming or graphical/design work but the psychological effect of each system is what makes the difference.

No, Linux encourages the mindset of using crappy languages like Perl for all the wrong things.

Nothing wrong with PERL. Everything wrong with putting 32 lines of code into 1. :psyduck:

But I agree that macs do somewhat encourage the artistic mindset. I dunno why. I think Detty's spot on with his assessment.

I would still never pay 2500 dollars for that hardware though :P

At least...not in a desktop.

It's a workstation, not a desktop PC. It's for those people who will actually use those 4 cores. I'm sure it does what it's intended for nicely. Hardware-wise it is nothing new though. Dual Woodcrest server boards with 8 DIMM slots have been out since late June though when Woodcrest was launched.

Perl can be used for anything and is useful for nothing.

Oh I understand that. Most people don't.

But I'm wondering why they have "Xeon/Core2 based architecture". I'd like to know more about that, unless it's just something inane.

Should really say Xeon/Core based architecture, since Core 2 is the name of the specific desktop and mobile chips and not the actual architecture, that's still called Core. They're just plain Woodcrest chips. Xeon 5130s, 5150s, and 5160s.

It says Core 2 microarchitecture, but Xeon architecture, which is what intrigued me. But yeah, seems like nothing.

Yup, just an error in nomenclature. I'll tell you what though, that hard drive rack design is pretty sweet. Dunno if any PC cases work like that, but if there are any, I want one, lol.

I'm pretty sure some Lian Li's look a LOT like that. In fact, I remember Yecti saying something about his.

And you still need the awesome case and the sexy OS, both of which would cost you a good 500 bucks, at the least, probably closer to 1000 if you wanted a case as good as that.

No, no they're not. They're extremely well priced is what they are. Alienware is actually very well priced nowadays too. People are living in the past--OEMs learned their lesson, people don't like overpriced ****ty computers. The ****ty computers they sell nowadays cost about 400-600 bucks. True, it's not as cheap as building your own PC (arguably), but you get a lot of other perks AND you can't really build a mac, even if they did go intel. They're not overpriced for what they are.

Im not saying it is the awesomest computer ever just because it has nice specs, no sir. But it by far has one of the sweetest looking, best designed case and coolest monitor on the market.

That case sucks. And no Lian Li do not make Apples cases. Thats a filthy lie.

A case can be bought for money, and the monitor actually isn't the "coolest". The 3007fpw beats it quite handily, now that they don't use the exact same panels, and the 20/21/22/23/2405/7 series from Dell has in the past used the same panels as Apple's, so you can't make an argument there (especially since they're much much less in price.

That's not Apple's case, and I'm 99% sure that Lian Li doesn't make Apple's cases, though they do borrow heavily from their designs.

PS--if that case sucks, stinkey, then so does Apple's. It's nearly the exact same design.

Apple might outsource some of their hardware manufacturing, cases included, but I don't think Lian Li builds them.

I'm also 99.9% sure that their cases were inhouse design. Design is one thing they pride themselves in, and I don't think it'd be something they'd outsource. It just doesn't seem like Apple.
