August 22nd and Iran

What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Basically, Iran was given to August 31 to respond to the UN about their Nuclear demands. Iran has responded and said the world will know their answer by August 22nd.

August 21 is a huge day for Islam. Pretty much, it is significant to Islam's claim to the city of Jerusalem as a holy city.

So now there's some odd speculation going on that Iran chose this date for a real reason, and not just a random date.

Some are stating that Iran is going to nuke Israel by the 22nd. Others think they are going to invade Israel. There's some other ideas as well

I seriously doubt that even Iran would attempt a nuclear attack. I think they're content with the proxy war they have going on in Lebanon.

I would bet anything that Israel has nuke- and effective anti-ICMB measures. After all they did invent the Conroe. They ain't dumb. But how would Iran Invade Israel? They'd have to go through Iraq. But with nukes, surly Iran still knows that mutually assured destruction did not go away with the Cold War. Even one nuke would ensure the launcher's death. There isn't a bunker built that can with stand a modern nuke blast, not even Norad.

It would be hard to believe that Mahmoud could be so dumb as to launch a nuke. But then again, muslim extremists are known to be irrational and unpredictable in their actions, so we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, another desert war. In Iran. That's one war I would actually volunteer to fight in, considering that Iran's on-going development of nuclear technology poses a big threat not only to the US but to other countries (basically anyone who stands in their way). But we'll see what happens.

Scary... but somehow I doubt the fact that Iran could actually nuke Israel. Here's hoping it's just another empty threat.

It's not so much nukes that he's talking about, he's talking about a much more realistic scenario that's at least just as scary.

It's also scary how far he goes in his speculations... and how he proposes to start another 'war to prevent a war'. :o

It's really a worst case scenario, but a good read. But I remember all the prognoses about Iraq, and they were all wrong, so this means nothing of course.

The U.S. saying "This country has weapons! We must stop them before they're a threat" isn't the same thing as Iran saying "Israel must die and removed from the face of the earth (repeatedly), and we have the right to develope nuclear technology."

They're going to do neither of these. Even if they do have a couple nuclear bombs by now, they know that anything they can do to Israel will pale in comparison to Israel's retaliation strike.

Then I think Israel's retaliation strike may be a bit less intense than you seem to think it will be.

With nuclear weapons, its only a matter of hours, if not minutes, before that is modified.
