Well, for one, other than a very sub-par job (I can't do better because I've never tried, Gold, so don't try it. Just a pre-empative come-back) he never completed anything he's started.

Well, there was Desaturated.

And orange. And leaky bucket. And JMZoneus. And Orange II. And Stava DM. And Mada Station. And thats just counting maps that didn't totally suck and/or get totally F'ed over by Jed to the point where I had to pretend they were done or risk having them totally destroyed (That is, Rotunda.)
Wikissassi sucks.

Heres a quick 3-5 min attempt... is this what you're looking for, or am I on a totally different track? (I could also make the castle/fort hexagonal if you wish).

Btw, I reccomend the sprites be 96x96 instead of 64x64 for obvious reasons (see below)

Try waiting longer than 9 minutes for an answer?

Just because patience is a virture, that doesn't make impatience a vice. :P

I think he wants them to look like a building, not a square with legs.

Indeed. And yes, it should be hex shaped, and not top-down, either. 3qrts overhead view.

And the size is non-negotiable.
Wikissassi sucks.

Well, then I am at a loss. I don't really show much of anything else here either, and when I do, it's just 'look at this random neat thing I did but have no actual use for'.
Wikissassi sucks.

Here. How I'd like them to look, done in MSPaint.

It's awesome. It's a little too big, though, and resizing it makes it all blurry. Do you have a version that's not anti-aliased?
Wikissassi sucks.

Is this the right size?

Do these help? They're in .png, but should be easily convertiable.

Not quite. Your's is exactly the same size of the hex. I need them a little smaller, so I can outline the hex with the player color. I can adjust it, though. Just need to knock a couple pixels out of the walls. :) I'm going to fill the arches in, and use that as the castle tile. :)
Wikissassi sucks.

I thought these games ussually have a backdrop map of the area with the hex grid just overlayed on top of it...

Engine loads pngs. :) It can load just about everything, actually. I just use tga because it's not lossy and it has an alpha channel...
Wikissassi sucks.
2006-08-11, 2:28 PM #65
So do you really want to tile the terrain or do you want the hexes mapped out over something a little better layed out? If so, then I'd need a screenshot (or at least, dimension) of the total game board. So if you can't just overlay the hexes onto a background, I can do it manually and then export each hex in squence.
"The solution is simple."

I'm planning on generating the terrain semi-randomly. To do that, I need tiles. What I'm really hoping for is terrain hexes that tile. Things like gently rolling hills, mountains, water...

[edit]
I have all of the 'framework' functional. (Still needs plenty of polish, though) You can create games, connect to them, chat, and end your turn. (It cycles through players, just like you'd expect) My goal for the weekend is to get to moving units around the map. :)

PNGs can have alpha channels, too, and offer better compression ratios.
