What a nutbar.

All your favorite bible heroes were polygamists.

I think it's silly though.

Hold on, I'll let you know when I care.

The towns these people live in Utah and Arizona are rather freaky. Interviews on television with people from this group make them appear brainwashed.

Unless I'm thinking of some other religious cult.

I live in Utah. The only places you hear about polygamists is way out in the boondocks. A lot of Mormons here aren't polygamists and look down on that sort of thing.

Though once my friends and I saw a polygamist family at a thrift store, they make their children dress all weird like they live in the mid 1800's. Though they are very polite, though it's to the point where it's freaking creepy.
My blawgh.

Yeah, they're not Mormons, they broke away from the tradional CLDS years ago to practice polygamy and be ruled by / worship the nutter in question.

There was a documentary on this guy on Channel 4 a month or so ago. He has almost absolute control over his congregation. If he didn't like a guy for whatever reason he could take his wife away and give her and his kids to another man and expel him from their community. And he was wanted for child molestation. Meanwhile he's been sending out Bin Laden style audio tapes for the last two years condemning black people, justifying murder in the name of God etc etc.
Good to see him behind bars.

I've seen some when I worked at a gas station in Utah. The women dressed very strangely...

There is nothing inherently wrong with polygamy, but there is something very wrong with heading a cult. I'm glad he was arrested.

Except it being illegal.

Didn't you argue that LDS was far from being a Cult back before you went bat****?

Yoshi, LDS != FLDS. FLDS people are 10 times crazier.

They both pretty much seem the same to me.

You didn't say anything about morality, just about it being wrong. Illegal = wrong. At least, that's what every anti-drug campaigner tries to shove down my throat, while I laugh at them.

Wow, you are truly ignorant.

You know, except that one excommunicates its members for practicing polygamy and the other endorses it.

Yeah, actually, I'm not up on the extremely subtle differences between the cult and the subcult.

Sorry dawg.

I think you need to check the definition of subtle.

They're only against it because it's illegal. They stopped practicing so Utah could become a state.

Sure, that was the initial reason for shunning polygamy, but you'll find most present-day members are abhorrently against it on principal. Especially women.

Well won't they be suprised when they die and their husband marries another woman in the afterlife!

I'm actually kinda in an indifferent opinion on polygamy. While I do not think it's for the United States, nor do I think it will ever will be, all I know is that people have different opinions on marrige, and I respect that. The only time I have a problem with it is when someone is hurt, but that's in some monogamy as well.

For the record, my personal opinion on my marrige will be with someone I love, and my love can only be towards one significant other.

I think you both need to check out the defintion of "stuble."

You both are probably incapable of generating any.

I base this on the fact that you both constantly bicker like women.

Considering stuble isn't a word, I should hope I can't generate any.

I've got lots of LDS friends. I dunno if they'd celebrate or whatever.
As for polygamy... well, I've heard lots of conflicting reports and have no actual experience with it (or monogamy... :() but right now I have to say that the idea of a group marriage sounds... a bit wonky to me. Because it seems like someone is being taken advantage of. Even then, that's namely because most polygamist unions you see are 2+ women and 1 guy. Maybe 1 woman 2+ guy. You never see mixed numbers, like 4 women and three men living under the same roof ("Oooh, the wacky times they'd have!"). Maybe that's how it really is out there in polygamy land, I don't know.

-*sigh* Does common-law apply to polygamist relationships?

Thank you. Not that anyone meant to, but as a mormon myself I don't want to be associated with this guy.

Yes it does. And it's girlyman. And you're wrong on that count.

But I'm not saying all LDS are MINDLESS CULT FOLLOWERS, just that the religion, as I see it, is a cult and is bunk. I see the Catholic Church as somewhat of a money-scheme, so take both statements as you will. For the record, I do have mormon friends.
