Rest in peace, mate!

No. Just no. This makes me so incredibly sad. I honestly thought it was a hoax, but noooooooo..... It's ridiculous, it's like that guy just couldn't die. This make me really sad. I can't believe it, he wasn't even 45 yet. :(

It's like watching a movie where the hero isn't supposed to die, and then he does. But in real life.

No one will replaced him. All the wannabes are cheezy and annoying.

Sad but not surprising.

He's been bitten on numerous occasions by various wildlife in non-vital locations. Unfortunately his luck was a couple of points too low this time.

Indeed. I don't suppose me faking a Cajun accent and videotaping myself in a Louisiana swamp handling dangerous reptiles wouldn't be any better...

yeah its not suprising but it is sad

Its like I'd figure it was coming because he's had close calls before but I just figured he'd be the guy who'd always get away with it, poor guy. I feel for his family, he has his wife and child and his child is old enough now to know that the father is dead:( that's sad

I had always thought that he would die in a bad fall or something like that. Still, at least it wasn't a croc or a snake, because then people would be like, "He was wrong! They are evil ugly monsters!"

In any case, this is a sad day.

Wow, this is really sad. Can't say I ever watched his show, but he was quite the character. This is really tragic :(

I was just checking Wiki to see where exactly a stingray has it's stinger. It's been updated to include Steve Irwin already.

That is absolutely shocking. I always thought stingrays were the most harmless things in the ocean. But he got it through the freaking heart! What on Earth could he have been doing to allow that to happen? :(

I will miss this man, who was a child hood figure for me. I grew up watching his show every time I had a chance. I saw him as a hero, and his death is painful, even to me. The world suddenly feels darker and lonelier. :(
Nothing to see here, move along.

Apparently from what I gathered, he was swimming dircetly over it, and starting coming down and the thing lifted its tail. Sort of like falling on a pike, only, that the pike wasn't there at first.

By the way what sort of person, when, upon hearing of some one's death, immediately rushes to Wikipedia to argue about what should and should not be included?

I don't really feel sad about it since I always expected him to die due to some animal, but I guess I should feel sad considering his family and all...

I wouldn't be suprised at all if he has something in his will specifically dealing with being killed on camera. I would guess that if it doesn't leak fairly soon, it will be dealt with in whatever manner he intended.

The stingray was cornered between Steve and a camera man.

It felt threatened.

It stabbed Steve and ran off.

It's on tape but the police have it.
