The only pricey thing about the Revolution.

And if we didn't use discs, you think there wouldn't have been considerable advances in flash technology?

I mean what are we up to now, like 10 gigs being almost affordable? I personally prefered the INDESTRUCTABLE nature of cartridges, rather than the ultra-fragile nature of discs.

And yeah, things don't happen to discs if you take care of them. But the average 6 year old cousin, little brother, little sister etc doesn't understand concepts like that.
Yeah, because they were definitely the first to move away from cart games.

Try SegaCD :p :D

Um yeah, he said Sega...
Bassoon, n. A brazen instrument into which a fool blows out his brains.

Yeah that's why I said Sega between the first two caughs, for SegaCD and Sega Saturn which both came out before Playstation.
That's a big if. But everything to make a great console is there--easy development
*cough* pardon?? *cough*

the PS3 as stated and linked to in previous threads about it is a ***** to develop for, the compiler alone to optimize games (completely) for the processor won't be finished till around 2008/2009.

So still 3 or 4 years before the PS3 will actually come out then?

I'm so not funny :psyduck:

Back to Wii controllers. Since I prefer single player, the first thing I thought of when I hear extra controllers is dual wielding lightsabers (substitute your weapon of choice). Swinging around one lightsaber/Wii controller would be great, so two must be twice as good.

Note that I haven't thought this through in any practical sense whatsoever, so it's probably not feasible, but right now I don't care.

No, the system will come out. All the compiler thing means is that most games won't take full advantage of the Cell. Which isn't terribly surprising, since just about every PS3 game is coming out for the 360 anyway.

To a casual observer like myself, that seems remarkably silly. Do most other consoles follow that pattern as well? I can understand developers getting better with time, but it seems a little odd to release the system, but only release the tools in a half-baked fashion.

Or you could get the xbox360 dvd/everything remote with a display on it for $150

They were the first to popularize it, and the first with the idea (SNES CD anyone?)

Flash has limited returns, and isn't always reliable, and there's other inherent problems. Sure, there would've been improvements, but not as fast as disc media's improved.

I could've sworn they released a primitive version of the compiler which was a help, even if not everything IBM cocked it up to be (at first). And from what I remember, people were saying it worked well.

Pretty much.

It's a work in progress...a compiler of the magnitude they shot for is a huge leap forward for multithreaded programming.

yeah, don't get me wrong in what I said about the compiler (octopiler), its still a remarkable piece of software as it stands at the minute.

The problem is that because of the complexity of the CELL compared to whats inside say, the 360 or a modern dual/quad core processor the folks at IBM have a much harder task ahead of them.

They'll get it working and considering how long the PS2 and Xbox have been out and even now people are getting things done on them that was never tought possible at the beginning its not suprising that it'll take another 2 to 3 years for the compiler to be fully finished.

The controllers are slightly more expensive to produce than a regular controller I'm going to assume. Therefore, these controllers cost more. I don't see you *****ing about the PS3 costing more, Yoshi. And that's not to make fun of the PS3, I'm just using that as an example.

Quit your damn *****ing about the Wiivolution controller price.
I had a blog. It sucked.

*****ing about the PS3 being expensive is like whining about how hot it is during the summer. By now, nobody cares, it's played out, etc.

And the PS3 isn't overpriced--but it is ****ing expensive. At least, it's not in the US and Japan.

And I'll continue *****ing about the price until Nintendo gets the stick out of their *** and starts making them cheaper. Are the components maybe a bit pricier? Yeah. Maybe. But 20 bucks for a ****ing analog stick? And one of them at that? That's just ****ing stupid.
