The Masquerade in Phantom of the Opera.

-The Showdown at the House of Blue Leaves in Kill Bill. Good party-pooper scenes.

Just to randomly pick a great one, the scene in Oldboy when Oh Dae-Su takes the cigarette from the gangster dude on the street, then gets up and thinks "Can 15 years of imaginary training make a difference?" and punches out a few of the guys before it cuts to black.... that part rawks so hardcore.

As well as the part where, after he tells the guy on the roof, the one with the dog, his story, and he's walking away across the street... he thinks "Laugh, and the world laughs with you, weep, and you weep alone", and the guy slams into the car from above, before Oh Dae-Su smiles and walks away... that scene is amazing.

Really, as are most in that movie.

The final shootout scene of V for Vendetta was awesome. V sure did fulfill his promise to that guy. :D

Jarl, have you ever seen The Phantom of the Opera show?

I saw it a few years ago at the Pantagious Theatre in Los Angeles. It's amazing, far better than the movie. Not that the movie was bad, I enjoyed it, and even bought a copy, but the play is outstanding.

The Departed. Yes, that whole scene. All two and a half hours of it.
Think while it's still legal.

Actually, I haven't seen the whole movie, but I do have the soundtrack and it sounds awesome. I keep hearing the play's better, and that Gerard De...de... the dude playing Erik isn't a good singer, but it sounds dandy to me. Of course, with a play you can have off-nights and bad productions and whatnot, but I keep hearing I should see it.

-Maybe some day.

The fight scene with the masked warrior in Kung Pow.

The ending of Nacho Libre.

The scene in Die Hard where John meets Hans with the fake accent.

The scene in Sanjuro when the gentlemen are trying to come up with a plan and their prisoner keeps popping out to help them.

The final shootout in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

That's all that's coming to me right now.

I was trying to come up with a scene, and totally forgot about that one.

I'll have to go with that one, definitely. And because I can't think of any other exceptional ones :o

Lord of the Rings : Return of the King, when Theoden and the Rohirim arrive at the battle of Minas Tirith. From the first sound of the horn to the arrival of the oliphants, it was a momentum of majestic power and magic. It was simply breathtaking. Theoden's speech, the emotion displayed at the sight of such impossible numbers.

When I first saw this thread I thought "yeah, like I could ever pick one scene", but that one might be it. I really liked the dialog in that scene, especially Tyler's whole speech about being God's unwanted children.

I recently rewatched the LoTR trilogy; lots of great scenes obviously but the one that stuck out the most to me was when the signal fires are being lit... the music and the scale of everything... I dunno, it was really good though.

....several...

Bottle Rocket - the scene where Bob and Future Man are introduced.

Pulp Fiction - Christopher Walken

Life is Beautiful - in the concentration camp when Guido gets on the microphone to talk to his wife. THAT makes me tear up.

Das Boot - the run through the Straits of Gibraltar.

Almost Famous - Lester Bangs, any scene and the scene on the airplane ("**** it! I'm gay!")

The Big Lebowski - "No one calls me Lebowski... I'm the Dude, man!"

28 Days Later - in the house, the eye-gouging scene

Blade Runner - Tyrell's eye-gouging scene

I <3 Huckabees - the dinner scene in which the girl says "Jesus is never mad at us; he lives in our hearts." and Mark Wahlberg's reply is "Oh he is! He most definitely is!"

and my favorite scene of allllllll time:

The Life Aquatic - after Ned tells Steve that he's his son and Steve walks to the front of the boat and smokes a joint and it's in slow-mo with David Bowie playing.... classic.
"Those ****ing amateurs... You left your dog, you idiots!"

You like eye-gouging, don't you? (although that scene in 28 days later is the culmination of why i love that movie so much. not because of the eye gouging, though.)
