US teen 'kills' Bush online, arrested

i agree as well, most kids have liberal teachers who teach half truths (i know cuz well i went to school duh...) and when you find out that alot of things are not as PC as you want them to be you get little 14 year olds who lash out like morons. Understood. I'm not arguing but kids in politics is just retarded. We even have qualifying ages for political positions and I am sure there is a just reason behind that.

A lot of people are retarded in politics, not just kids.. :D

She immediately tries to take it down after learning it's illegal. I think that's the most important thing.

Well, not by the Secret Service. Those lazy bums only work assassinations and counterfeiting cases.

Ah, didn't know about that. Thanks for the link.

Was this a one-time initiative, or do they actually have the job of helping prevent school shootings now?

Appears to have been a one-time study, but I could be mistaken.

I have had the pleasure of talking with a Secret Service counter-sniper unit for ~45min once, as we were waiting for President Bush to fly into Gainesville Florida. They're unbelievably accurate..IIRC, the guy said they can take out a bowling pin from 1000 yards..! The distance could be incorrect, but it was quite impressive.
woot!

I'm pretty sure death threats are always illegal, especially against the president. I know she's just a kid, but you have to remember that Secret Service guys have no sense of humor.

Also, I'm sure our body guards are good, but they have nothing on these guys.

I'd laugh if they all got taken out by a bomb. :P Still, hard core.

They're in the Department of the Treasury, so they're a lot more specialized. Besides, there are so many different Federal Law Enforcement out there: FBI, ATF, DEA, US Marshals. I'm sure there are more that I don't think about.

I think George Bush proves exactly the contrary.

Age limitations should be removed.

I propose intelligence requirements.

so you went to yale rob? or an ivy league school?
2006-10-18, 5:09 AM #53
And graduated with a C average?

2006-10-18, 5:09 AM #54
Nah.

My daddy isn't rich enough to pay my way into yale.

You do know Bush had some pretty pathetic test scores, don't you?

PS. You can go to school, and still be totally stupid.
2006-10-18, 5:12 AM #55
bush's scores were the exact same as john kerry's in terms of gpa. you can go to school and be stupid (ie. the movie tommy boy) but ivy league is usually a different story
2006-10-18, 5:22 AM #56
Wait.

Point out where I was talking about, or giving a **** about John Kerry's GPA or test scores in this thread.

You can't.

Like I said. Bush's test scores suck too bad to have been let into Yale under normal my daddy isn't rich circumstances.

Please don't mention other presidential CANDIDATES. We're talking about the current president.

And if you care to know. I think BOTH of them are idiots.

And yet people still somehow manage to graduate from these schools with better-than-C averages.

Plus, GPA has nothing to do with intelligence. There are plenty of intelligent people with poor GPAs because they're lazy and plenty of stupid people with good GPAs because they're persistent.

[lulz, edited.]

I do not want to kill the president. I want to kill people who aren't watched so closely. It's easier.

Sending someone a death threat is illegal. Saying your going to kill someone isn't.

Like, if you're at a bar and someone pisses you off and you go "I'm gonna kill you you ****" the cops aren't going to come rushing in to get you. But if he winds up dead, you will definitely be suspect.

Was she arrested or charged? no, she was just questioned.

I don't know what the deal is with the whole 'patriot act' thing you guys have going is. But ignoring whatever mess might be in that act, no, it isn't.

If the secret service even has to be worried about a 14yo girl killing the president, then they REALLY need to develope a better training system. If a 14yo girl kills your whole job (literally) then you can forget ever doing that job again, ever. EVER. In fact, you would probably find yourself working at a mcdonalds in eastern europe.

Its their job to take any threat - regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, etc. - as a serious issue.

Because as well all know, that a.) everyone who says they are a 14 year old girl on the internet is really a 14 year old girl and b.) teenagers have never comitted any acts of violence that have resulted in the deaths of people before.

Well, if they stopped and a kid actually ended up commiting a terrorist act in the US (not saying killing Bush like here), then everyone would ***** how they did nothing to stop it. Plus there's been stories how Terrorists are willing to use children for terrorism (A 16 year who became a suicide bomber comes to mind)

The US is damned if they do, damned if they don't. In everything. People will always complain with whatever goes wrong. However, that's what makes America America!
2006-10-20, 10:04 AM #76
What are you talking about? The girl learned it was illegal, and tried to remove it. Gee golly, that sure sounds like a terr'ist threat...

Which is why she's not in jail, awaiting trial. I friend of mine got into a little bit of trouble in high school for making copies of $20 bills and trying to pass them off in the school cafeteria. He got caught and ended up getting a visit from a secret service agent. He wasn't arrested or anything, but he was questioned and so on.

Exactly, she learned in class that a threat like that was illegal and replaced it. The government most likely found the image and then went to question her on why it was put up, and then for what reasons it was put down.

And she wasn't arrested - they were just investigating.

If someone posts a threat to kill someone online, then takes it down three days later, from an outsider point of view - why did they take it down? And if that person ends up killing someone, can it be argued "Well he took it off his site so we thought everything was fine!"
