The little things that count.

Here in this this thread we shall post those little things that although they make the Video Gaming experiance better are so little and out of the way you barely notice them Other quirks also acceptable.

Jedi Knight.
1. How the levels get better as you go on. Compare Nar to level 19. 19 has better lighting better design and even destroyable lights that affect the lighting.
2. The small hill with an ATST on it during level 15[Look down when your at the crow.]
3.The footstep noises. Different ones for different places. Not all that great but for 97'...
4. The fact that blaster shots actually light up the area[Lots of newer games dont do that.]

MoTS
1. OMQ AI vs AI system!...That sadly was very underused. [Anyone know of a good level where theres a huge AI vs AI battle?]
2.Coloured lighting. This game does it right! Not random blue/red rooms but the terrain and objects are often used to help the effect.
3. Carb Gun Nuff said!

Well thats all for now.

MMOs: That whole playing with other people online all the time.
RTSs: I love that birds eye view!
FPSs: Kakdamn, I always wondered what it looked like to be in WW2...

Oh, little things..

SoF/2: Gore. Lots of it. Satisfying when you're pissed off (Yeah, Jack Thompson's goign to be calling my parents now telling them I vented my anger once in SoF)
I had a blog. It sucked.

Doom 3 - The screaming the player does while in berserk mode. I don't know why, but I find that to be one of the most satisfying aspects of the game.

F.E.A.R. - the distortions in the radio signals, then nothing happening. I love the suspense.

F.E.A.R! Oh man, all the cool little things in F.E.A.R
Soldier A "Move out!"
Soldier B "F*** you!"

Not to mention when I had one guy all alone, hiding behind a block. I just waited for him to poke his head out, so what'd he do? held the gun above the block and sprayed wildly.

Man F.E.A.R was awesome, I should play that again...

"Take him out!"

"No way man!"

That was pretty damn awesome.

I remember the cardboard intestines in SoF 1. Was pretty funny if I do say so myself.

As for myself...

WoW: All the quest dialog, the NPCs talking to eachother, and letters you can find scattered places. Books, scrolls, and background information really enhance the atmosphere. A lot of people overlook this, and say WoW is just another grindfest without substance. Also, every single pun that ever existed (And more) is in this game.

Warcraft III: The ending sequence / Credits for Reign Of Chaos had me all giddy when they redid the openning movie for WC2 using WC3 units and such. Pretty awesome.

That's because your lighter is burning quite efficiently. Flames from a fireplace or torch can cast shadows, or more specifically, the smoke and soot in the flame can cast shadows.

I could write so much about this subject...

...if I remembered anything.

But in Duke Nukem 3D, at least on some version Duke tended to say "Damn I'm ugly" when "activated" a mirror, later it turned into "Damn, I'm looking good."

Yeah.

Which would prove the point. Only the flame itself has a shadow, not the smoke.

Outer space is a vacuum. Yet in Star Wars movies sounds can be heard. Know why? Because sounds are awesome.

And the only reason soundless space worked in Firefly and Serenity was from the sound of music. :P

That game had alot of potential.

If it were just less buggy, it would have been a super-hit, and we'd have another troika game.

In the SWTC, it's suggested that the sounds heard are actually produced by the ship itself, as another sensory medium.

You'd think that in a universe like Star Wars, there'd be enough space pollution to actually have sound to travel down SOMETHING.

The overheard conversations in FarCry whilst using the Binocs.

Merc 1: I've had it with these mutant monkeys all over the island. We should take them out!
Merc 2: You mean the Trigens?
Merc 1: I said mutant monkeys and I meant mutant monkeys. I ain't no scientist and I'm not gonna start talking like one. So let's hunt down those mutant monkeys!
Merc 2: Yeah! Mutant Monkeys! Let's Take Them Out!

And

Merc 1: If that guy comes around here, I'll fix his little red wagon!

Or

Merc 1: You better hope he doesn't come around here, the last thing we want is some action.

Followed by Carver busting in and kicking ***.

In JO, that one hallway as you approach a hangar where you can hear Stormies talking, and one mentions how Kejim got him by some kinda Jedi, and the other says "Man, the last thing I feel like dealing with right now is some Jedi". Followed by saber decapitation, of course.
