Anime sucks
2004-07-06, 7:19 AM #1
I was just browsing through deviantArt and I realized anime sucks! It's overused, unoriginal and annoyingly cutesy. People need to develop their own style of drawing!

That's your opinion. And as your opinion sucks in my opinion, I don't give a damn what you think.

I don't think it requires much talent to be good at Anime. Some people are REALLY good at it, and I respect them, but most artist's work are unoriginal and ugly.

Anime doesn't suck. Every little kiddy with a pencil drawing ^__^ on a triangular face sucks. I'm not that good at drawing it, I'll admit, and this is probably my greatest acccomplishment in drawing...or at least one of them. You see, you mistake those that wish they could draw well, and still post their every scribble on the internet with those that just draw, well or not, and don't post every piece of crap they draw on the internet.

That and Cowboy Bebop is own.

Anime is any cartoon made in Japan. There are various styles and not all of it looks the same. Some anime does suck, just like some of anything does. A picture drawn in a popular style of anime isn't anime, unless it is animated and made in Japan (whatever that may mean).

You can't call Anime overly cutesy, since that is just a blanket term stemmed from ignorance.

Cowboy Bebop, for example, definately did not have cutesy in it.

As for you hating anime-STYLE art, that's your own opinion. But true anime, as in the animated stuff from Japan, is generally good. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, .hack, and more will always hold a special place in my heart.

And as for overused and unoriginal: Just about any type of art is overused and unoriginal nowadays, considering art has been around for thousands of years. Anime is a relatively new style of art, as compared to say, Van Gogh or something, so if it is overused and unoriginal, you must hate every single type of art then!

Just so you know, that's a physical impossibility. There is so much anime out there that you having watched even 1/64th of it is HIGHLY unlikely.

I like anime simply because of the stories. They can do so much more than live action if it's done right, and they don't have censors telling them they can't have blood in a shootout scene or whatever.

Bebop's character development was perfect, and the story made sense at the end. They left out a lot of the origin stories except for bits and pieces, and had it make sense while retaining that sense of mystery.

Most animes are too cliche, so I've stopped watching most of them. Cowboy Bebop is good, but things like Inuyasha make me sick. How many more things does a guy need to kill with a giant sword for the series to end?

Ya inuyasha's pretty much the same thing every show,

But the animes like Noir or Hellsing are pretty good

Escaflowne, has cliche aspects, but the way they present them makes them totally un-cliche, and the story is just amazingly awesome.

I think Pokemon should be considered an act of war from Japan.

Sailor Moon is funny, because I keep thinking they're all lesbians.

But anyway, it does irritate me how many westerners are suddenly following the 'Japanese' trend, how it's all of a sudden cool to be into Japanese stuff.

Japan is a perfectly interesting country, and I speak a little Japanese, but when you bump into white people on the train and they say 'sumimasen'..well, that's too much. You're not Japanese, damnit! Stop pretending to be Japanese! Stuff that's cool/cute when Japanese people do it is not cool/cute when white people do it >:

Also, it amuses me how Engrish is now being done on purpose. Well, it's sort of sad, too. Before, you could go into some Asian clothes shop selling cheap American replicas where they had misspelled or totally butchered some English phrase on a shirt and it'd be amusing to buy it. Now, the Japanese have worked out that the foreign devils actually enjoy the grammatical errors and do them on purpose to sell the product. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I like Inuyasha and Trigun but I don't understand the people who are always acting as if just because something is anime then it's godly.

Yeah the style is interesting to me in those two series alone, but when people want everything done in anime..it really takes away the charm. It's pretty silly.

For some reason I liked Mobile Suit Gundam. The animation in the original was laughable, but the updated animation of the mechs looked really cool in the other UC series.

I liked Gundam Wing when it came out, I kinda see it's numerous flaws in retrospect. never bothered to watch G Gundam, the concept behind it just bothered me.

Rourouni Kenshin has nice action, but it has that DBZish (which I actually liked back when it was first aired on CN) storyline of one battle after another. The movies "Trust & Betrayal" and "Reflection" were much better IMO, though.

The one's I don't really like -Inuyasha, RK, etc.- ussually have some character that I do to get me to watch it once in a while.

oooh. Duck Tales was fantastic!

I also liked Wacky Races.

As for new cartoons, there's this thing that my sister watches with this kid who has a pair of goldfish that can perform wishes, who are his godparents or something.. But anyway, that is quite good actually.

I like cartoons to be stupid and funny.

I never really got into Anime...I dunno, every time I see some of it it's either ridiculous (...Fist of the North Star) or horribly dubbed or just hideous (Reign).

What REALLY bothers me thought is die-hard anime fans who act as if anime is the pinnacle of art and anyone who disagrees is stupid and dumb. I know a guy who talks ENDLESSLY about anime and almost nothing else. It's obnoxious.

Just becaue you don't like something doesn't mean it sucks. I'm not an anime fan or a fan of the art in anime, but I don't think it sucks. It's just not for me.

While certain series listed here are pretty good, I'm a fan of One Piece, Excel Saga, Dragon Half...

I could do a lot of ranting, but the bottom line is I still have mixed feelings about anime in general as an animator, writer, etc.

Like all other things, some anime are good and others are not. Cowboy Bebop is my absolute favorite.

I watched Sailor Moon once and Pokemon once, and decided that, indeed, anime sucks. Later, I grudgingly watched some other anime, and it wasn't bad. So, I know now that, like every other style of animation or whatever, anime has both good and bad aspects. And I just found a spider that made a web on one of my computer speakers.

And DIC didn't do anything. Sailor Moon is deplorable, it suffers from DBZ Syndrome. OMG, ITS A HARDER ANTAGONIST! WE MUST FIND SOME NEW POWER THAT WILL DEFEAT IT!

Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Escaflowne, Blue Sub #6, Gundam Wing, Robotech, Macross, all animes that have been on TV and are great. Also Akira, GitS, LAIN...need I go on?

I think what you're thinking of is "never watch cliche animes that are on TV.

But yah, I love Macross Plus. That's probably in my top 3. OLS is my absolute favorite though. Jim Hawking + Suzuka = <3

No, i mean NEVER watch anime on TV

Outlaw Star - Edited
Cowboy Bebop - Edited
Evangelion - Edited
Escaflowne - Edited
Blue Sub #6 - Edited, and that is a horrible movie. It depended on crappy CGI and bad story and just everything was horrible. I hate this OMG NEW AGE anime with all the CGI crap..it just ruins the show/movie.
Gundam Wing - Edited
Robotech - Edited
Macross - Edited
Akira - It's a classic, but edited most of the time...It's not even that great, it's just it was the first anime film to beak many barriers.

Buy the DVD's or rent them. Never watch anime on TV. Plus 90% of the anime on TV is the dubbed version, many people prefer subbed.
