Lasik surgery

Lasik surgery is when you are strapped to a table and a laser beam cuts the table as it moves toward your groin while a megalomaniac and his bowler-wearing friend watch, right?

I've decided against lasik though because if I remember right its not 100% risk free and I'd hate to have things worse than before.

I talked to a couple Lasik places -- one doctor had done over 10,000 procedures and had no catastrophic failures. Another had 5000+, and only one person said she wouldn't do it again -she was happy with her results, but was so nervous she didn't know if she could make herself do it again.

Who are you going for? I'm looking at Tempe, Scottsdale, Gilbert area (Arizona). I'm clear for NH, but they don't pay too well and I'm ready for somewhere different..

Indiana State Police, and its actually 20/50 corrected I was thinking of my local cities policy.
Most departments I can't join in other states and some places because I wear hearing aids. California is the only state that has a policy that law enforcement agencies can't automaticly disqualify for wearing hearing aids but I don't want to go there.
ISP doesn't care as long as you can pass a test that proves you can understand people talking. Their view is if you're in a fight it really doesn't matter if the person breaks your hearing aids (fat chance btw) since you're probably fighting for your life and what people are saying doesn't matter anymore.
California POST states that its a concern if you're struck on the side of the head that your hearing aid may shatter. They probably don't realize that hearing aids don't shatter and if you're hit hard enough to break it, then you're probably dead. :P

Pay isn't awful (New York, UGH), but some cities and counties pay more.
But look at the perks...
Take-Home car you can use anywhere in the state.
Free Burger-King and Taco Bell.
and more prestige over ANY other department in the state since ISP is NOTORIOUS for their harder para-military 23 week training.

Starting salary for the Oakland Police Department is over $70,000. About the same from San Francisco too. Both are lovely cities to work in. :P

Meh I've got Lasik booked for next wednesday.

Been told optimum night vision in 2-3 months. £3000 ish total.

Not entirely happy with the idea of a computer controlled laser shooting into my eyes. Gonna ask what version of windows its running first :P

pilots may need good vision. an airline decided a few years ago that they needed o have good eye sight without glasses. the pilots sued claiming discrimination based on a disability. the judge said there was no way he was saying that anyone with glasses is disabled.
i tried contacts about 1 1/2 years ago. every kind we tried stuck to my eyes like little suction cups. doc said i would get infections from them so i can't wear 'em.
Cyclops was right

Is it bad that I sleep with my contacts in and only take them out once a week? Oh, and that I make one pair last 2 months instead of 2 weeks? :psyduck:

My parent's keep telling me I'm going to get an eye infection, but I've made a 1 year supply of contacts last for more than three years and counting so far...

I think my dad did something like that years ago...I don't know exactly what happened, but I don't think it was good. You only have two eyes...contacts aren't that expensive. :)
