Time for some forum consolidation?

He mods the DF, that's pretty close to admin status anyway. :P
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I say condense the JK forum, cog forum and JA forum into one board and add that to the bottom of the list of the four remaining main boards. (...did that make sense?)

Please no.

Keep the editing boards apart. You can get confused easily with questions.

I say just leave the editing forums as is. I mean, does it really bother people so much that it needs to be changed? If they aren't an issue, why fix them?

At best, keep them for old time's sake.

Most people post tech things in the discussion forums anyways.

I don't care. I'm fine with things are.

However, I think this last year, we had the most people quit Massassi than any other year. We need to start something up again. PUBLISH SOMETHING WE CAN MOD, LEC! I think Massassi is losing members, but not gaining any new members (because JK is no longer mainstream).

Massassi needs to expand its interest in order to survive. Otherwise, people will start leaving, and our join rate will be low to none...

Don't want to see the day Massassi goes. I know no one will say it, but it needs to be said: We need to survive by expanding areas of Massassi.

How, I don't know.

Alot of Massassi's JK popularity came from the Zone. At the Zone, people would converse with each other and try out new mods and such due to being in a open community. People were able to easily start up servers and test new experiences with new maps and user-created content. I mean, how many people found Massassi and started editing because of the Zone? Majority I'm thinking. The Zone died down, people grew up and times have changed. The newer games, JO and JA for example, don't heavily rely on a Zone-esque place, instead, they offered a list of servers. People are no longer willing to try new maps with people because they can't easily get involved with hosting and such, and people can't easily grab new content to try out right away. Files are hosted on commercialized mega-sites, like filefront, which detact players from any close community.

I hope I'm somewhat right.

I agree totally. I came here via Zone too.

But I don't think that's the demise of JK. JO and JA were not that very good compared to JK. Not many people played it. Not many people cared about it. Gaming sites did not give GOTY's to it. Both of those games didn't get the attention JK did.

That's why I'm saying to bring in a new breed of modders from a different game. The problem is: What game?

If we can't solve that problem, then let's go to this one: How can Massassi attract new members?

And of course, no matter which question we ask, we always have this one: How can we keep the current ones we have?

For one, I think we can do some more uploading of files. New content to the site. It seems like no one does it anymore (I heard its an annoying process.) Also, change the SotD once in awhile to showcase new material from the community. I know new projects are slow, but there some decent stuff from Showcase that gets missed.

Is anyone doing those jobs? I can lend a helping hand once in awhile.

Excellent ideas. The front page has been updated recently with some new Holiday Banner things, but the SOTD and such need some movin'.

Despite what the forums has, modding is still popular in JK. Not as much, but still is.

I'm going to leave the editing forums as is. If someone is looking for jk information, they can search particular forums. If it's all mingled, it will be very difficult. The tech forum was originally created because there were TONS of tech discussions in the main discussion forum (I think there was a phase where everyone wanted to learn php and start their own site -- as if the coding were the hard part, meh). The tech forum is still there if you have it bookmarked, but it won't allow new posts. If there are specific threads there that are in use for something, let me know and we can move them to discussion or somewhere else. Or I can leave the tech forum open for posting for those that know about it but not visible on the main page.

That last option would be fine for me. I try to keep tech discussions over there, and it may have slowed down, but it certainly was still active on at the very least a bi-daily basis.

That would be my preference.

The site is geared towards younger people. I think a lot of people have just grown up.

The tech forum was the first forum I went to every morning. When a tech question was asked in the discussion forum a discussion about the question or the contents of the question quickly came up, which I think is the point of the discussion forum. Topics may drift there.
In the tech forum most things were kept to the point. If someone asked for advice what to buy a discussion arose, but it still kept mostly to the point.

Yeah. I used to think that there's no point in having so many forums for such a small community, but I guess it doesn't really make a difference.

The only reason I can't stand religious "discussions" here is that people are total jerks about it. I am a Christian who loves a great discussion, but I put no input into a thread where, if I post my views, a reply consists of "Omg! You are teh wrong! It's like this! why are peoples stoopid!1!!"

If we had real religious discussions with strong rules and moderation, I would love that. The theme that keeps reoccurring in this thread is that we are getting older and maturing, so I believe that, as "mature" adults, we could carry on a meaningful discussion within a Religious Discussion forum. Again with strong rules set and good moderators.

Who else would like that?

My Religious Discussion forum would work the best.

I'd wait for threads to get into the second page and then ban everyone who has posted. Yay! :)

Argh, I never read the discussion forum. Now that the tech forum is merged to it, I have one forum less to read...which is great, I suppose...

No, a religious forum will only lead to flamewars no matter what. But, then again, many of those patrons of that forum have left.

Regarding the forums, I tend to hardly ever use the technology forum and I don't mind if its merged with the main forum. However the editing forum should be kept as I often use it, same for the music discussion forum as I post on it very often.

I think the tech forum should come back.

I liked randomly roaming it for information or maybe I could just help out, now they are all scattered.
