Alot of Massassi's JK popularity came from the Zone. At the Zone, people would converse with each other and try out new mods and such due to being in a open community. People were able to easily start up servers and test new experiences with new maps and user-created content. I mean, how many people found Massassi and started editing because of the Zone? Majority I'm thinking. The Zone died down, people grew up and times have changed. The newer games, JO and JA for example, don't heavily rely on a Zone-esque place, instead, they offered a list of servers. People are no longer willing to try new maps with people because they can't easily get involved with hosting and such, and people can't easily grab new content to try out right away. Files are hosted on commercialized mega-sites, like filefront, which detact players from any close community.
I hope I'm somewhat right.
