Bush takes responsibility for Iraq mistakes
2007-01-11, 1:30 PM #1
...and calls for increase of troops.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/11/iraq.bush/index.html

Interesting...do you think more troops will help stabilize the situation?

I respect him for admitting responsibility, although I don't think he's the only one to blame. Also, I see it as similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger admitting to having used steroids: it's so obvious that denying it would hurt his credibility as a politician.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Did he actually admit to making mistakes?

The middle east is a faucet of extremists who would love nothing more than to kill more Americans.

Throwing a bigger number at the situation isn't going to solve the issue.

We've done nothing but make the Iraqi/Middle Eastern situation worst. We won't be able to pull out, because the insurgents will stay there. We shouldn't stay, because the situation cannot be remedied.

We should have done this the right way. I hate to say it, but one city-sized crater would have probably been enough. Less innocent people would have died, likely.

That was my thought when all of this started; just glass an area and be done with it.

The more we kill, the less there are to kill us.

I wonder if hotdogs in Iraq taste any different than hot dogs in America. . .

That's pretty much the only thing I feel inclined to say about all of this. So frankly, I almost don't care.

Well, he can't really gain any support without admitting his significantly big faults anymore. Everyone knows the problems, so it isn't surprising that the only way to look remotely positive is to publicly confess he made some big mistakes. Just wished this was sooner, a lot sooner.

He takes responsibility, but the consequences fall on the men and women in Iraq.

That's fair.

Toppling Saddam was akin to shaking a bottle of champagne and popping the cork off. Now we're just a third party stuck in the middle of a civil war, adding more troops isn't going to change anything.

Snoopsoldier doesn't begin with a J.

I know there was one soldier guy. He was well known on the chat rather than the forums.

Here's the way I see it: I don't think we should have gone in in the first place, but we did. However, since we DID, we should have done it RIGHT, and that means full commitment, not the half-***-keep-the-public-happy job we tried to do which, surprise!, didn't quite work. Now we're going in in much more force and I have no idea if it's too late or not. I do know that if we'd done it right in the first place (since apparently it HAD to be done? i guess?) we wouldn't be in this situation now. Whatever. At least I have a say in the next election, unlike the last.

I think the biggest mistake Bush ever made was to listen to advisors about how to be PC in the whole war against terrorism. You can't eliminate extremism by stating displeasure and asking for cooperation from rogue nations. Modern diplomacy adds up to **** in the minds of people who strive to return the world to the state it was some 5-600 years ago.

The invasion of Iraq was not properly thought out and Bush at least has admitted mistakes, but try telling that to all the families of dead or wounded soldiers. But it is vital that the Americans and the Coalition forces make sure that there is stablity in Iraq.

Saddam Hussein is dead, Bush can no longer have any excuses. But whowever's at fault, the soldiers need to be respected as they are trying as hard as they can to make Iraq a better place. :)
