No porn on Blu-ray. It's dead, Jim.

Wow. For a greedy money-grubbing corporation like Sony, they sure make stupid decisions.

I'm honestly just taken back by sony. If you made a list of everything that killed betamax, you'd have sony's business plan for blu-ray.

HD-DVD and Blu-ray both suck. I hope they both die a miserable death.

I am depressed knowing I can't see any [insert female body part here] on a blu ray disc.

It does not matter how you stand to porn. It is here and it is a massive business. It is also an industry that is an early adopter for new media technology. VHS might not have won with out the adult film industry adopting it.

That's so true, they have a point there.

porn in HD.... count the wrinkles in the face of the "barely legal teens"
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2007-01-11, 8:55 PM #14
It's sad to think that all the porn that I have could fit on just 2 dual-layer blu-ray disks.

Oh well, time to get downloading some more I guess.

Unrelated to that, I hope that the mass production of blu-ray players will drive the price of blue laser pointers down to the point where I can actually afford one because a blue laser pointer would be cool to have.

"Alienate 90% of the market for dummies" is the official handbook of sony employees.

I mean hell, if you can appeal to only 10 percent of the market (Read: Fanboys) , you CAN sell game consoles for 600 dollars.

Worth pointing out that it's not quite an analogous situation to VHS v Betamax. Back then, you couldn't get porn on demand in your home. The Internet gives you that now, so I don't see it as being anywhere near as major a factor as it was for Betamax.

Doesn't bother me, I wouldn't ever pay for porn no matter what the format.

Most people wouldn't. Why pay for something that's basically free?

Everybody who's declaring that Blu-ray is dead because there isn't porn on it are wrong. Blu-ray/HD-DVD isn't going to die/live because there won't/will be porn, Blu-ray/HD-DVD is going to die because:

1.) You'll only be able to get half of all movies on Blu-ray/HD-DVD so unless you can afford two players it's about as attractive as a snake bite,

2.) You have to connect your Blu-ray/HD-DVD player to the internet to download updates to play certain movies,

3.) Apart from the people with too much money, the normal early adopters - the technically capable, if you will - would rather download X.264 cable rips than pick a side.

This is completely different from the Betamax/VHS thing in that, no matter what, one format was going to be adopted for sure. The technology served a purpose. Blu-ray and HD-DVD really don't. And, like I just said, if you're a techie and you have the money for a 1080p HDTV and a new player, you probably already have a HD-capable STB.

Which admittedly is a pretty silly solution.

I don't think it's the porn thing that makes it similar to betamax vs. vhs, it's the excessive control that sony wants to exert over it's proprietary format.

Every news story I hear about blu-ray, and pretty much sony in general, to me, sounds like another example of sony ignoring past mistakes.
Steal my dreams and sell them back to me.....
2007-01-12, 4:13 PM #24
Sony is just being stupid. There's no ands, ifs, or buts about it.

Their proprietary technologies are going to be the death of the company. Just because a company can make and sell proprietary hardware doesn't mean that they are in a position to do so unless they have an edge on the industry and/or there are no real viable alternatives.

If given a choice, people prefer hardware/media that is cheap and/or interchangable with other products; requirements that seldom apply to proprietary products. It's a bad idea to go proprietary unless you have some sort of technical advantage that makes the extra cost worth it, or if you are in a position to force it down people's throats. Sony is not in a position to do either.
2007-01-12, 4:47 PM #25
I don't like that Sony can just decide what's porn and what isn't.

-Viva la porno, I say.

Perfect for a movie like Superman.

Too bad you pay $30 for a dual format disk instead of $15-$20 for just one or the other.

Haha. I remember when VHS was still really popular and the change to DVD started to become larger...

Blu-ray would make it harder to make home videos...

Until some company/person makes a new style of movie format that is totally rad, I will be sticking to DVD.

Hmm.. imagine...movies put on to a ring... you punch some part of the ring player to transfer the movie files instantly and you get your movie... and you can change movies by changing the tip with some other movie.. now That is something I'd buy!

It's not nearly as amazing if you spend more than 5 minutes thinking about it.

If we're talking porn, there are other things that should be shaved.

I'm pretty sure this is just a false rumour. Not only does that website lack credibility (see homepage?), but there are no other sources for this. Also, porno company "Vivid" still seems to be planning blu-ray releases.
