he said that the bullet went through his leg implying that it entered his leg, then left his leg. they probably found out it was a .22 from the empty cartridge on the street. and mister bandit, some bullets are designed to explode once it hits its target, they're called hollow points, so not all bullets can be so easily found.

mmm k, but when it said .22 rounds recovered, does that mean the shells or the slugs?

You can tell from the size of an entry would too, generally.

they probably did find the actual bullet, the bullet probably lost most of its energy going through his leg so it went through and continued a little bit, but the empty cartridge was probably left at the scene as most criminals don't bother to clean up after firing a gun.

basic gun knowledge: shells and slugs are primarily used in shotguns.

generally yes, but try telling the difference from a wound from a .40 S&W versus a .45 ACP
i bet its easier to look at the cartridge than the wound.

hollow points don't nesecarrily explode they expand really fast and sometimes break up after entering a soft target

frangibles break up after entering a soft target

explosive rounds will explode... but just try finding any

Right, but in this case, it was a .22, so it was a small entrance wound.

Possibly, maybe in some states. It's concealable.

negative, the MP7 is a machine pistol and there are other factors involved

You *could* get a modified one I suppose but HK isn't in the market for making civilian legal modifications to their guns.

I'm just surprised you didn't even know you got shot. I mean, you'd think you'd fall off your bike or something.

But I'm glad you're okay.

Well, it was a 22, so I imagine it would be like getting a deep puncture wound from a small sharped rod.
2007-01-18, 10:44 PM #57
Yecti's got a machine pistol, at least one. I don't know if it's legal or not. :ninja:

From all I've read, you don't realize you've been shot until a bit later.

That's crazy ****. I don't understand though... were they after you or did a stray bullet just get you?

no new registration of fully automatic firearms since 1986 if it was registered before then it's legal and can be legally transferred (with a $200 transfer tax on top of whatever new car price the owner is willing to part with it for)

it's a .22 failing a headshot it's not all that effective against humans and won't likely knock someone off their bike

for comparison this pic shows a .22LR cartridge next to a couple black powder projectiles (.54 caliber) and some military caliber rounds

Are you referring to the assault rifle ban, or this is a different law?

if you are talking about the 89 ban that was on importation of certain semi-auto firearms (all those semi-auto AKs that are you find at places like dunhams are built with a number of US made parts including the reciever)

the only way around that ban is for the weapon to be eligible for C&R status

if you are talking about the 94 assault weapon (gotta love media invented phrases) ban it went bye bye in 2004

i'm referring to the Firearm Owner's Protection Act of 1986

I was thinking of a Springfield XD in .45. My dad's a gun nut and keeps issues of Guns & Ammo around his house. Also, we went looking in an Army Surplus store and they had one for ~$350, so it's definitely being considered.

In ragards to other questions, an empty magazine was recovered from the scene of the shooting, bullets and cartridges were gathered from the other scenes. Since my pants only had one bullet hole in them, it's safe to assume that the bullet fell down my pant leg after exiting my thigh. Couldn't find it afterwards; cops probably picked it up.

Also, Wal-Mart says oxycodon = percoset. But whatever, I feel good. Still off work til sunday (still going to the DMV to take my permit test today) and going stir crazy with a chance of light cabin fever over saturday.

I hate bed rest. D:

I haven't tried the 45 but the XD40 is a sweet gun. I'll probably get one like it after I buy a SIG556.

That's a good read, and explains the National Firearms Act that Jim's talking about.

Furthermore, mine was purchased abroad, imported, inspected and registered with a transfer. How the owner before me came into possession is still unbeknownst to me, but the weapon is not suspected of being involved in any crimes. *shrug*

Guns should be illegal. All guns. Even knives.

Also, women shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Time for another update about my ***.

Just took the bandages off today, cause I really needed a shower. Basically, I have what looks like a spider bite my thigh and a zit on my ***. No more blood, but there's enough on the bandages to open my own blood bank. So now I have 2 band-aids on my hindquarters, which I'm hoping don't fall off since I have to go to work tonight. Other than slight issues with sitting and standing, I'm all right. Also, my dad put the XD .45 on layaway at the Army Surplus store; he's going to give it to me when I hit 21. I just wish I could at least rent a handgun to go down to the range. Stupid Florida laws.

What's the gun laws in various states?
