Find some friends that have guns to go down to the range with. I live up in Gainseville, and I go shooting with some friends of mine with their own weapons.

Nah, I'd much rather do serious harm. Besides, I'm not getting revenge, it's for if it happens again.

I can tell you that as soon as you think you might be in posession of a firearm, don't delay if you intend to carry it. Get your CC permit AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The paperwork takes some time (at least for me) because they file an extensive criminal background check.

.22s are terrible weapons for anything but varmint hunting and target shooting for the reason just demonstrated by this post. Stopping power. They just don't STOP things, unless you got a headshot, in which case it's still not definite that it'll stop them, only more likely.

Don't underestimate them..I've seen cruiser dash video of a trooper as he was killed by a .22. :(

Oh, they'll kill you, sure, but barring a particularly lucky or good shot, it won't stop you immediately. My friend lives in a house where a guy killed himself many years ago, he shot himself in the head with a .22 and it went into his skull but didn't have the velocity to break through the other side, so it bounced around in his brain and scrambled it a bit. The guy ran around the house screaming for a little while before he died.

this is kinda relevant, but after reading your post, i dreamed of pretty much the exact same thing that happened to you, except that i clearly saw three guys, and their guns sounded like cap guns. however, they werent .22's, since i could feel sharp pain everytime they hit me, but i couldnt see any wounds.

It's really hard to actually kill someone though. You'll have to get a head shot or hit something really vital.

Well, the chances of hitting something really vital are pretty good..
woot!

Exactly. Well, no, the chances of hitting something vital aren't THAT great that it'll be likely to kill you, especially with a .22. It'll penetrate in but due to the small size and low velocity, and damage will be mostly limited to the bullet hole, except in the case mentioned in my last post, haha. I mean, there are a lot of places you can get shot that'll mess you up bad, but modern medical practices means it's pretty hard to kill someone with something like a .22 if you're not trying to....i mean, sure, you can put a hole in something and cause bad problems, but EMTS get there fast, and can keep you going until doctors can fix you up...so if it doesn't kill you in the first....i forget the statistic, but it's something like an hour, I think...if you're not dead in an hour, your chances of survival are greatly increased.

I thought it was a high velocity round. Then again, it traveled through me and had lost enough speed that it did not make an exit hole in my pants, so it probably tumbled out my pant leg. I couldn't find it though.

I can get a CCP no problem, as long as I take a course and have shooting experience (I think 40 hour course and 20 hours at a range) which I have no problem with. A range up the street offers the course. I just have to wait till I hit 21, which is < 2 years away. I also get to kill anybody who I feel is a genuine threat to my life. Which basically just = shotouts til someone dies. Yay Florida law. Lot of loops in that, but I'd shoot as I got the hell out of there. If they followed me home, I'd shoot to kill. Otherwise I'm dead. Kinda shame, but it might happen.

On the other note, the emt's were there within 20 minutes, which was nice. Lot of activity in the night, cause cops were there in less than 5. They thought the shooter was in the house. 'Tards. One of them basically said I was taking it better then he would. I have a feeling that he was gonna say something about killing the guy, but couldn't. He was entertaining. He told the EMTs to shut the hell up like 9 times cause they were all like "Let's go, damnit." and the cop just said "It's his leg, he'll be fine. He's got a towel."

I hate hospitals, though.

.22 is high velocity. That's why they use them in shooting competitions. It's so high velocity, in fact, that many hitmen reportedly use them exclusively for contracts because they're known to relatively easily penetrate body armor.

EDIT: Of course that depends on the type of .22 round being used. Some of them travel relatively slow, but if you buy a decent brand and high grain round, it can travel up to 1800 feet per second. Also, due to the small size, it can penetrate damned near anything at that speed, making it nearly unnoticeable if you're shot by one, but it does put holes in just about anything.

Last I checked there are three varieties of .22 ammunition available. Caps, shorts and longs. It's the longs that have the really high velocity.

.22 Long Rifle is the most commonly used variant. Most .22 pistols use it. I have a .22 Colt which fires Long Rifle rounds.

...no, assassins like .22 because it's a quiet round, which means it's damn near silent when a silencer is equipped. It's also a light round and loses kinetic energy quickly. It's low report and low risk of damage is why it's used in competition shooting. It's not very good at penetration of armor. The .223 was designed to go through armor, and has to achieve more than 2300fps to be effective.

Well, okay, so I don't know too much about the different varieties of .22, but I think it might do some of the people in this thread some good to see just how big a .22 round really is. The one on the far right is the kind of .22 I am most familiar with. It's an exaggeration, but I'll say that it's the most wussy kick i've ever felt. At least with my airsoft gun I'm usually holding it with one hand, haha.

Yeah - a .22lr..very common. Ammo is cheap, too.

I have a Ruger 10/22..love it. :)

That's nothing. Compared to the AT-ST, a .22 is as big as a person
