I have to admit that I was underwhelmed by KotoR. Maybe Bioware just doesn't create RPGs I like; I felt the same way about NWN and Baldur's Gate. Black Isle, on the other hand, can do no wrong. Or, *did* no wrong, thanks a lot, Interplay!

i love the game, just wish i hadn't gone to Korriban first... that was a bit difficult at a low level.

KotOR has various small issues; not enough variety in NPC faces and costumes, not enough variety in weapons, a lot of the headband type items just look plain hideous when equipped, but those are the smallest things. My only major gripe is probably that all the planets are pretty short in game time compared to Taris. I wish there was more to do on them, and more to explore. And my only other gripe is that nothing has the same look as the Tales of the Jedi comics, there's some name for the style I think, it's making futuristic stuff look old and ancient. Perhaps the artists in the comics take it too far on occasion, but it would definitely have been better off looking a little less like TPM.

But the story though...oh my god...It starts like a normal good vs evil epic, then you get to one part and you're like... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif]

Heres the thing about KotOR, Its not about how fun it is, Its about how well it emerses you into the enviroment. You feel for (or feel like killing) all the NPCs you meet, and you become interested in their story and how it affects you. You really feel like you are part of the star wars universe, which is why I think its one of the best games ever

fishstickz, what you mentioned are huge factors in what determines what's fun.

People have a tendency to pick on games because of the smallest things. And I'm not talking about when it's genuine, I'm talking about when they're really skeptical of a game before it comes out, and are so arrogant and macho that they can't admit it's really good, so they pick on the really small tiny things and blow them out of proportion. I used to do that until I realized I'd just end up screwing myself out of really good, memorable gaming experiences...

Yeah, KotOR isn't perfect all around. Some parts I find totally perfect, some defintely could be better, and a few I hope get patched.

They're better and not as good at the same time as JA's (which are better than JO's).

I think KOTOR is a very good game and rightfully deserves the praise it has received.

The Good
-original score
-graphics
-light/dark implementation
-voice acting
-open terrain (looking across the vast Tatooine desert with the sand crawler in the background is very cool)
-party characters/personalities
-story (especially later on)
-planets
-force powers
-swoop racing and Ebon Hawk gunner

The Bad
-performance is less than ideal
-some (minor) bugs
-the alien languages are not implemented very well (there are basically a few voice overs for each language, which you hear over and over again)
-not enough variety when it comes to NPCs (physically)
-getting stuck in the environment too frequently and having to manuver around to get loose, largely because the levels aren't..."carved out" very well it seems
-not enough video options to adjust (shadows/grass, texture quality and resolution don't exactly blow me away in terms of options)
-cutscenes you can't skip (I was getting very annoyed by the 20-second victory/loss sequence played after a swoop race, especially since it took me a few tries)

And the Ugly
-Pazaak.

I'm too poor to get this game right now.
I hope I get it for xmas but I don't think I will.
I can't wait to get this game.

Pazaack was way underdeveloped. You should have been able to participate in larger games or tournaments, preferably without topping out like you do in the Swoop races. I also would have liked to see Sabaac, and if it didn't exist then, then something similar. I believe Sabaac can be played with many players, that would have been a lot of fun in KotOR.

I also think a simple trading/bartering system could have been implemented. Something as simple as Freelancer's, which while undeveloped for that game, would be fine for a game like KotOR where it isn't the focus. I would have liked to been able to find, buy, sell and trade a much larger variety of goods and items. The inventory would also require reworking for easier categories and easier ways to give/recieve items. Come to think of it, it kind of needs that now as it is.

I must also reiterate how amazing the voice acting and dialog is. They don't ever say anything lame, it always fits perfectly. And a lot of your choices are very funny. I just wish you yourself had a voice actor, that would have given a lot more to the character. Perhaps time or money constraints.

A lot of it's incredible. The story is, it has a really awesome twist. There's all sorts of back story scattered throughout the game through various means. The combat is awesome, the mini games and quests are awesome, too. It's just a lot of awesome.

It's worth the full price of admission. The story alone is incredible. It's quite a visual experience as well, especially if you have the means to crank all the settings up. The sound is top notch as well; sabers humming and clashing, blaster bolts, all excellent. When I play, I feel like I'm there.

I hope there'll be an exapnasion in the future [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Well since JKA is a mod for JK that will be free to download (unless brad goes crazy), I'm not sure why you would need to wait for a price drop.

Word. I just finished it - the plot is amazing, the graphics are superb, the voices and sounds are spot on, the combat is a delight, the items and quests boundless, and it isn't ridiculously short either! (Mr Payne? Jaden Korr of the Jedi Academy? Call of Duty? Are you listening?!) 24 hours pretty much to the minute was how long it took me to finish it - I swore I'd never play an RPG because they were all about goblins and bearded women, but this... this has to be the best game I've played in the longest while alongside Vice City and Red Alert 2, my two other immortalised favourites.

Maybe it's even the best game I've ever played, I don't know, I'll have to get back to you on that one. Buy a copy, blag one for half as many credits as they're charging or persuade the guy behind the counter of your local games shop that it would be in his best interests to allow free acquisition (been playing too long, can't you tell?)

ya, I beat/watch someone beat the entire game. Meh... maybe its that i've played so many better games. I have to admit the battle system was nice. Altough I don't think they emphasized using force powers enough, as my friends strategy was to run in and hack and slash everything to death and he never had any trouble. Also, there wasn't enough diversity in guns(big guns that fire 3 bullets at a time... wow, pistols, rifles...). Also all ranged weapons had unlimited ammo, in NVN you at least have to be a little bit aware of how much ammo you have left. Also there was almost no difference between dark and light gameplay, just in dark you kill more stuff in dark. The game lost a lot when you got your lightsaber.
