KotOR: Game of the Year

Count me in as loving it. I'm going through the second time, this time on the dark side.
I'm probably the worst darksider that ever lived though. I prefer being nice to everyone. Being a jerk is depressing.

So I'm trying to go from the angle of being not a bad person, but not perfectly virtuous. Like I'll be nice to most people, but I'll be ruthless to enemies and stuff.

In some ways I think the interface is a step down from BG2 and NWN, but I eventually got used to it.

How I love that game.

KotOR (while a great game) made me realize how much I miss Infinity engine's hand drawn backgrounds. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I was really interested in this,
I'm not big on RPGs but I really like a good story. And I heard so much good about this that I thought I'd give it a shot.

But they forced me to ignore the game when no demo was released.

My desire to pick this up seems to waning. At first I was psyched, but the numerous bug reports and performance issues have me wary. Plus I'm not sure about the replayability, I could be overly picky about this though since I thought NWN had no replay value. /prepares for a hammering.

Replayability is a bit of an issue, Run, but most people seem to complete it and head straight back in as the other side of the Force. Also, the game itself is rewardingly long. I am somewhere between a casual and a hardcore gamer (maybe.. 2 hrs a day?) and stopping to do all the side-quests it took me a good two and a half weeks to complete.

I'd SO hammer you for that, if it wasn't Christmas morning... so instead of a flaming, merry christmas.

Ok, I just installed it. Took up all my space [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]. This will be pretty much my first RPG ever, so I'll see how this goes.

That seems like a reason to get it. I looked at it the other day and it seemed pretty cool. Ive also heard people talk about it on here. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

well, i'm ten hours into it now, loving the game completely....ranks up there with NWN, Vice city....

also the story is starting to unfold...though not totally predictable in some ways is interesting and makes you want to find out more....plus everyone keeps talking about this *twist* near the end...just want to complete the game to find out what it is....ggrr

i'm not a big RPG fan, normally only play them durning term breaks....but this one is a must.

btw not finding any performance issues anywhere....

I heard someone say once that the world is a fine place and that it was worth fighting for....I agree with the last part.

I have to admit that I was underwhelmed by KotoR. Maybe Bioware just doesn't create RPGs I like; I felt the same way about NWN and Baldur's Gate. Black Isle, on the other hand, can do no wrong. Or, *did* no wrong, thanks a lot, Interplay!</font>

Black Isle made Fallout, Fallout 2, Baldurs Gate, Baldurs Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale and i'm not certain about Icewind Dale 2.

Whereas Bioware made NWN and KotOR. Both of which pale in comparison to the Black Isle portfolio.

I didn't like NWN as much as BG2.

I think KotOR is about tied with BG2 for me though.

That is simply not true. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were made almost entirely by Bioware, with Black Isle only acting in a supporting position.

When BioWare was creating the first Baldur's Gate, they pretty much did it all themselves except with some very small things provided by us like a sound engine and a movie processor.

BioWare then began work on Baldur's Gate 2

I'm perfectly aware of all that Knobz but it wasn't relevant to my point. Every game that has "Black Isle" on the box has been pure quality, whereas "Bioware" are producing games of a much lower standard.

Maybe it's the effect of changing publishers.

Or to put it more simply:

http://www.blackisle.com/games.html <--- these games (with the exception of the Dark Alliance games and Lionheart which i've never played) are far superior (in my opinion) to all the games that appear on this list: http://www.bioware.com/games/ (with the exception of the games which appear on both, cause they rock [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif])

I won against the Pazaak master on my first try. And then I got ripped off by Christya. That's a lesson for you to heed folks, don't give her any of your money [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif].

before anyone says anything about Dark Alliance i'll say it isn't exactly the best game black isle made but it's a good 10hours of gameplay each time you play through it... and with 4 characters that brings it to 40hours plus if you play the extreme mode or whatever it's called that's ANOTHER 10 hours.. but remember it's not as much an RPG as it is a hack 'n' slash type game

KoToR's twist was excellent, though playing it again, it makes me feel foolish to not have seen it coming...

Maybe I'm just overestimating myself.
