I thought that was the greatest episode of Top Gear I've ever seen. Jeremy Clarkson is my hero. You just don't get people in the American media who are so anti-P.C.

They knew it would happen, but they knew it would happen because Alabama is a well-known black mark on the nation.

I've got to say though, it's annoying how Clarkson's generalizations about America, on Top Gear or in his articles, are almost exclusively based upon trips to the deep south (no offense to Massassi southerners).
Steal my dreams and sell them back to me.....

Yeah, the deep south is the absolute worst part of the united states, but don't take offense, southerners, because that's like being the least delicious part of a pie. American deep south, you're the pie pan to the rest of america's delicious apple pie.

Seriously, though, I have no desire to travel to or THROUGH the south. I DO however, have a desire to own that truck that they had...sweet.

They always exaggerate what they think will happen for entertainment value. I wouldn't expect to be hunted down for writing CONSERVATIVES R RUBBISH, I LOVE TEH MANSECKS or INDIE MUSIC R SUK on my car in Britain so I am genuinely shocked that something so mild managed to cause such a response. I would expect a few people to complain about the comments, but I would never expect to actually be scared for my life.

yeah if your in Britain, but these are rednecks, and as i think has already been established they're crazy! all I'm saying is you go into a place with a bunch of crazy people (mind you I'm sure not all of them are crazy, but, i digress) and purposefully try to offend them and your surprised when they shoot at you? I've actually been shot at by rednecks before, and i just had my hair cut in a mohawk.:psyduck:

I think that the important thing that everyone is forgetting, is that this could never happen in Canada.

Well, unless you made fun of our beer. Or hockey. But that's it.

You've just got to love people that are stereotyped as thinking that being Gay is wrong, but incest is fine. :P

My initial thought would be that the stereotype was blown way out of proportion, so of course I would be suprised if I was actually shot at. The idea of there being places in America where you can actually EXPECT to be shot just for having certain opinions sounds like a horror movie more than reality.

Our beer doesn't have enough water in it for delicate American tastes.

To be honest that was pretty much what I was expecting, the odd person to shout some abuse or make a rude remark or something, but the fact that the top gear guys where threatened with violence for expressing an opinion (blatant in its provocation though it was) is shocking coming from what is considered a civilized country.

The fact that Alabama is known for being, lets not dance around the subject, a little racist and stuck in their ways, should be no excuse for the behavior exhibited towards the top gear presenters and film crew. If the same thing was repeated here in the UK with similarly provoking statements written across the cars and the same response occurred the people would be tracked down and locked up and yet in the US its like, they're rednecks, they are like that and thats the end of it.

Also, wtf is up with new orleans being in the state it still is?

Serious issues aside, amazing episode :D

I don't really expect people consider to the mexican buffer zone to be civilized country.

Don't forget, we are talking about people who would probably still keep slaves if the guv'ment wouldn't stop them.

not slaves, just low-wage servants

We gave them food and a place to stay!
